Summarized, the text from the .pdf sayes, that the peace was held as an 16th century-breastplate because of the decoration, which was also existant in that time. Nowerday´s analysis (in coorporation with the famous german Armourer Peter Müller) found out, that it really is from the 1430´ -jears. ...

@ Marc Ha:
I´m quite sorry to interrupt you, but you mean Kastenbrust, not Katzenbrust.

Kastenbrust means "Chest-Breast" (And that´s what you are talking about),
Katzenbrust means "Cat-Breast" ;)

Greetings from the german corner,
Gregor ;)

As far as I know, pavaises like that were already used in the late 14. century in eastern Germany.

Right!

I saw yours in your thread an I was very surprized, that they are even sold in Australia ;)

You customized them very nicely, by the way.
If my studies wouldn´t eat all my time, I would do things like that, too

Do you have a great helm or visor, or does the LARP thing mean you need that level of face protection. In German Larp its forbidden to strike at the head, so i don´t need a Visor, even if i want to get a Klappvisier once  Did you make all of your kit? If not where did you get the pieces from...

@ Mark: Yeah, a Mail-Shirt really misses! I´m getting one in two weeks.

It depends where I´m Larping. But mostly with the same Group. They make Larps in Koblenz and Gießen every year.

Circa 1340-1370 german/french clothing and harness

Hi!

Because I finally got pictures of my kit, I´d like to show you.

(About the harness: it´s just for Larp, not SCA at all, hope you don´t mind it.)

Here you can find all the pictures:

And how about "aus"?
Nope, never used. That would be very uncommon in german, because it sounds more like kind of a roamer

"Hans aus Niederkassel" = Hans from Niederkassel, not Hans of Niederkassel!

Here is one map: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/3b/HRR_14Jh.jpg Outsunberg is no town or city in germany, even the mixture of the vowels is not typical german. @ Strongbow: Yea, i know those effigies, but i would not suggest, that its an alone-standing berastplate. Perhaps it´s a kind of a corrazina(? In german it´s called "Lendner") like this: http://www.plattnerwerkstatt.de/hp/index.php?option=com_phocagallery&view=detail&catid=25&id=76:dsc_0321&tmpl=c...

@miscreant: Interesting! Do you have some more information or a bigger picture of that? This far i would not suggest that it must be a globose breastplate, but would like to see more of it to get more shure.

@ Strongbow:

I´m sorry, but i have to disagree. As far as I know, the first Breastplates appeared around 1380, in 1350´s only COPs were worn.

You are right, Pavaises were in used from the early 14. century until the middle of the 16. century, as i remember correctly. First Pavaises looked much like scutums, just without the shieldboss. But in difference to scutums, pavaises were not carried by a strap on the arm, often there were special ...
