Hi guys, Konstantin: Life gets in the way of life doesn't it? :D (insert laughter here...) So are Steve SoFC, Prince of Darkmoor, hauptman, Matt, or any of the old guys :) still around? Thanks for the specifics Eric. I'm curious: where did you get the wool, and what type exactly is it? Sarre, try a ...

.....And now it's full circle 8) I finished my gambeson several years ago (2001 I think), and it's given me a lot of great use since. Granted, I never got much into SCA fighting like I thought I would, so I haven't used the gambeson on a regular basis, but I definitely have put it through a lot--my ...

For sale: 100% Cotton Moving Blanket
Hi guys, I have an extra moving blanket for making gambesons, haketons, whatever padded armour you want, and I'm downsizing a bit, so my loss is your gain. It's 100% cotton. I made sure of that when I put together the order for several of these a few years ago. I have made many padded items from the...

Hi Aaron, A resource that might help you out is "The Kiln Book" by Olsen. It has scads of fantastic info about building all sorts of kilns out of lots of different materials, including adobe and electric kilns. I've recently been doing calculations with the book from the electric kiln section (not f...

actually, you want different metals, with a high galvanic potential. this is just a galvanic reaction after all (think batteries). You want to find a metal that has a high galvanic potential with steel. http://www.corrosion-doctors.org/Definitions/galvanic-series.htm basically, if your two metals a...

Howdy all, Greetings, Shas, and welcome to the archive! Hi all, I'm experimenting with forge welding myself--just thought I'd chime in. Jim Hrousilas has a few books on pattern welding (pattern-welded blade, complete bladesmith), and they're worth the read for the info about forge welding in a coal forge. He says that much more flux is needed in a coal f...

Greetings, all, I wondered what you guys used for angle grinders for your projects. I'm working on some helms and the like, and need a grinder to finish the plates. Matthew Amt has a great method for constructing wooden hoplons on his site, found here: http://www.larp.com/hoplite/index.html , and the hoplon instructions can be found here: http://www.larp.com/hoplite/hoplon.html
Essentially, the construction uses layers of plywood rings to build up a dome.
Have fun!
