Just out of curiosity, why all the hating on DVA? Some historically accurate kits would have no or very minimal armor showing. If the armor is going to be covered by a tunic/pants anyway, why are so many people upset about using plastic? In my experience plastic armor is much lighter than other kind...

WTB: Old Leather Armour/ Armour Bits
I'm interested in buying old leather armour that is no longer in use. I had an old leather breast/back plate laying around that no one in my household wanted. The leather has lots of holes from being resized numerous times previously, but otherwise was in ok shape, just not really good armour. When ...

Mild Armour care
Hello All, I'm sure it's all been done and said before and I did search for it, but cannot seem to find any results. The problem I am having is trying to keep my mild helmets rust-free. Currently what I have done is sanded the spots that pick up surface rust, then hit the whole helm with gun oil. Th...

If you have a wire wheel for your drill/screwgun, those work great for removing rust. They do remove metal too (in small amounts, but still), so it shouldn't be something you use as your regular maintenance technique, but using it to get your armor back in shape shouldn't be a problem. I've used it ...

Clear Coating Mild Steel
I have been thinking about ways to protect my equipment, and have taken to using rust-oleum on the inside of my mild pieces of armor. However, I don't want to color the viewable surfaces, and so have just been using gun oil to protect these surfaces. Of course, some rust still gets through. Lately, ...

WTB from/ looking for info from lathers/turners
Hey all, I bought my wife a spinning wheel for Christmas and went with an antique because, well, I'm on the AA - we like old things. The drawback of buying an antique spinning wheel is that the bobbins are not a standard size. We need more bobbins, so I'm going to have to get them custom turned, it ...

Wow! You're the only other 9th C Frankish person I've ever met. I'm in the same boat as you, it is hard to find the Carolingian helmets. Here is one that Knotwolf made: http://www.knotwolf.com/mambo/images/stories/helmets/E-10.jpg I'm currently working with Hjalmr on getting one made that resembles ...

Yeah, it sucks that's it's so low quality. It's bad enough that it is ill-suited for our purposes as having something that went together like that (and actually worked well) would be a great way to put together a hidden kit cheaply and easily, but it's far worse that it's ineffective in its given pu...

That's interesting, I would think that it's actual performance as far as staying in place and whatnot would be one of the highest qualifications in riot gear. I'm not looking for armour at this point, just saw the suit and wondered whether or not it would actually deliver. From your review, it sound...

The ultimate in hidden armour?
Hey all, I do ebay searches for SCA related stuff when bored, and occasionally find some very interesting things. This suit is one such find. Has anyone ever seen anything like this in use on an SCA field or in a mundane setting? I know we have several policemen here on the AA. If this suit actually...

I went with his stainless and am very happy. The lighter gauge of metal gets bent every now and again, but just flip it over, hit it with a hammer, and you're set to go.

This set of armour look familiar to anyone? (ebay)
Hey all, There's a set on ebay that the listing seems like it might have a few things off. (Calls what looks more like lamellar a COP, gives no measurements on helm and says it should fit anybody, etc) Not sure if this set will look familiar to anyone. http://cgi.ebay.com/SCA-LARP-Ren-steel-and-alum...
