Re: Pheonix Dawn Plate Armour: Designing a Zweihander!
I used to live in Benicia and Vallejo, not that far from you. I was stopped in Benicia for openly wearing my sword on Main Street (a store owner wanted some photos). I was politely asked where I was going, I answered and asked to make sure that swords over 18" in length were still considered 'showpi...

That's really nice looking. If I'd seen that when I got my bonus earlier this year I'd have another of your helms.

Or even etch runes/script/patterns lightly into the skull and then make it shiny.

Re: Fantasy helm help wanted.
Perhaps adding cheeks, then age or darken everything but the skull. To the skull apply a mirror finish for contrast. For some reason the idea of a reflective and perfect skull mask gazing out if an antiqued helm sounds visually appealing.

Review of Shaped Rattan Polearm
I received one of each type from Baron Eirik earlier this week. I bought a spear for myself and a glaive for a friend. Today I took the great spear to practice and it was great. The weapon was light for its size, and moved really well. The perceived lightness didn't keep it from delivering a stout b...

What would the combined cost of one of each with shipping be to 03264? I have a hankering for a slashing spear and a friend has a birthday soon.

Re: Repairing finger gauntlets
The finger plates are riveted to leather strips that are themselves anchored at the hand knuckles and the fingertips. Beyond that the fingers ride free until the hand is closed, at which point they pull tight to my fingers. Hmm... Now that I've said that I realize I should probably sew the strips to...

Repairing finger gauntlets
I need some advice please. I have a pair of Darkheart stealth gauntlets. By and large I love them, but I've had the leathers fail on three fingers. Most recently at Birka this past weekend I took a shot that tore the rivet through the leather finger strip. The next shot saw the grounding fingertip o...

Re: LF Darkheart Armory
I had the same issue, sent final payment and then heard nothing. I finally got through to him and he said he had lost my info. He got my armor to me a bit later than I'd hoped but the armor was really nice, a pair of the stealth gauntlets. All I can suggest is perserverence. If he says the armor is ...

Re: i'm probably going to feel kind of dumb for this but....
For some reason I had thought there were some strict limits on charges. I was disabused of this notion when two opposing shield men at a recent practice made a concerted charge from a handful of steps at me. There I was thinking 'Crap, they just charged me. I thought that was forbidden' and as I gav...

Re: $40 La Tene prototype hilt
I don't have any photos of it. The entire assembly proved to be too bulky to use so I went back to a more normal setup. The problem as I recall was the lower cross hilt near the pommel. It kept binding up my wrist at full extention on swings.

So lovely. I've been wanting something like that for awhile. I even tried making a cobbled together one from Windrose hardware (2 of the celtic cross pieces and a round pommel). How often will these be available?

Re: Truck spring as source for smithing material?
Used coil springs were the steel of choice in my metal shop class for making chisels. My instructor brought the spring in, cut it into sections and we were resposible for the rest. I used the chisel I made on my first ship to cut a bolt on a steam line that hadn't been off in probably 5o years. That...

I have the same gauntlets. My review after using them a bit more is mixed. On one hand, they look great and articulate well. The places where I find shortcomings might have as much to do with my weirdly shaped hands as anything else. The gloves used were very supple leather, but I took a shot that t...

Skirt for a female fighter of later period
So a friend asked me a question and I am unsure. She was curious about a skirt to go over her leg armor. Said skirt would be similar to a riding skirt I guess in that it would really be pants with skirt panels to give the illusion of a skirt while giving the modesty protection of pants. Does this so...

I recently ordered a pair of fanless knees to wear for hidden armor. My old legs (from Nightshade Leather) were given to friend getting into fighting and they were great for non-hidden armor. For hidden armor, not so much. Long story short, my order was just pulled from the mailbox after less than 2...

A friend of mine used to do a very good looking Japanese impression. For his katanas and no-dachis, he would make a jig to support the curve he wanted. Then he would soak the rattan for about a day and put it in the jig and leave it to dry for a week or so. His weapons would retain that curve quite ...

As has been said, electrolytic corrosion. I used to try to explain to a port engineer why he shouldn't use steel rivets on aluminum boarding doors for a salt water ferry. He seemed to think I was talking about frog eyes and pixie dust. And inevitably, brackets, rivets and hatches would all corrode. ...
