Re: 15th Century Fat-Man -- what's he wearing?
Thanks, everyone, for the insight (and the additional pictures... and the interpretive dance). I've got other projects in the queue first, but I'm hoping to base an outfit on that fellow at some point (he being one of the few "fat man" 15th century images I can find... needless to say I don't fit th...

Re: 15th Century Fat-Man -- what's he wearing?
Sorry -- the image is from "Construction de l'abbatiale de St Denis" circa 1470. I haven't found a good image on the web so I blatantly stole that one from the Compagnie of st George's men's clothing guide.

latest rattan pollaxe technology?
I've been out of the loop for a rather long time, but looking to get back into SCA heavy combat. I like polearms, but sadly my pollaxe (made with a yoga block) is way too squishy. Back when I was last active revival offered a talhoffer rubber axe-head, but it seems they no longer carry it. I dug up ...

FS Hjalmr stainless "skullcap" helm - $150
Hi guys. I'm looking to sell my Hjalmr stainless "skullcap" helmet. Here's a stock photo : http://www.flickr.com/photos/21215018@N07/3446189263/in/photostream It looks alot like a munitions sallet, and I bought it for a 15thC burgundian foot-soldier impression for SCA heavy combat. It's built for a ...

What are you charging these days for a 6' length of slightly fatter rattan, with only the flats shaved down to 1.5" (or 1.25"), with the skin left on the ends of the "oval"?

Windrose shipping?
Does Windrose really want $15 to ship a single 12"square of architectural foam to alabama? That almost seems like it has to be a glitch in their automated cart, but maybe not. Anyone got 1/2 or 1/4 (or even just an 8"x4" piece) of windrose architectural foam they'd care to part with, at a more reaso...

Sir Mordreth is right. If I am opening a can (polearm v sword & shield) I prefer you to come to me. I have a few techniques in order to get you to decide to do what I want you to do. As a novice polearm fighter, I'm very interested in the why/how of this -- do you not take shots while you're in ran...

Re: My very own pollaxe! Yay!
Thanks William, it was my intent to keep it as close to the original dimensions as was reasonable. I really wish we allowed low-profile thrusties on two-handers, but to my knowledge Meridies still requires a 2" thrusty on 2-H weapon. To my knowledge clackers are also not allowed, or else I would hav...

Re: My very own pollaxe! Yay!
Yeah, eventually I want to make a leather based one, but yoga block was cheap and available. It's got some cush to it, but not like blue camp pad. At full block width it has hardly any give, but when cut down to 1.5" wide it gets a little squishier. It definately has more give than the minimum requi...

My very own pollaxe! Yay!
I picked up yoga blocks... but I was still in training and not yet authorized so I was using sword/board anyways. Then I cut out a halberd head... but I had this cute little 4.5' "atlantian thug stick" on loan from my best friend, and I didn't have my own stick of rattan anyways. Finally got off my ...

I always wanted to build a "bed" for a round pavilion that was basically a low platform with a series of wedge-shaped foam matresses and a big semicircular sheet... pile a jillion pillows on it and call it good! How 'bout them braves? On topic, though, I prefer to cover up my armour not because it's plastic (ok, my gauntlets are plastic) but because it doesn't meet my own personal aesthetic criteria. That said, I'm not going to skip a fighter practice because I forgot my tunic. While I get that any time we ...

I hate snipers. I wish Ebay would go to a different bidding system to get rid of them. It is one of the main reasons I no longer do much on Ebay. I used to feel the same way, until I realized that snipers have absolutely no effect on my ebay experience. Unless i'm just doing a minimal bid so I get ...

Would also trade for an appropriate helmet that fits my 24.5" head, or perhaps other armour for a rotund 15th century foot soldier. Or copious quantities of linen .

It certainly has that look! This helmet is labeled "skullcap" in hjalmr's photostream, so I just used his term. It's my favorite of his later period helms.Wulfgar wrote:I'd say it's more of a munitions grade sallet.

Hjalmr skullcap helmet for sale, new -- never worn
Stainless steel skullcap helmet for SCA combat, it's just a touch too small for my 24.5" noggin. My bare head fits in fine, but with .5" padding all around it's tighter than I want it to be. I'll take some pics when I get home today, but you can check out hjalmr's photos if you want a sneak peak of ...

Re: Protect My Thighs and a few other Questions
I'm not sure what the rules in trimaris are -- I also have little interest in fighting sword/shield in the SCA, but in meridies I have no choice but to authorize that way. I'm making a small (not quite buckler) centergrip heater for times when I must use a shield. My period of choice is late 15th, a...
