15th C Italian Joust Harness and accoutrements

Finally, I am getting pretty happy with how this is coming together. Need to do a strap barding and tweak a few things as always. Plain steel chamfron too. Luke Binks did a great job on the great bascinet. Just got to get a melée visor for it. We eventually gave up on trying a spring latch and just ...

Hahaha. Don't you know it Mac. I had this cunning armourer send me some lovely pics a while ago.

Wonder if he will make it for me ;)

15thC kit is getting there

Couldn't get the dang Beauchamp Pagent style totem on my armet to work. Also frogmouth mods were done too late to train in effectively. Other than that period stirrups to finish. Pretty damn pleased. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll288/Blackfather/Andrew_1-1.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albu...

Haven't been on here in ages. This tourney was most excellent. The lances handled and broke beautifully. Was good to finally break an historically accurate lance in an historical harness! Rod put on an excellent tournament

Re: advice on full armour combat needed

I find I don't have a 'stance' that I am constantly moving and adjusting. I move from a ward/guard to another and try and stay balanced. Is the armour restricting your balance? If it fits and is well mad you should be fairly balanced anyway. You just need to get used to restrictive vision from small...

Re: Jousters a Horse Opinion Needed

If you want to do something badly enough, you can usually find a way. Learn to ride first, and then think about jousting. Therein lies the key. It is that simple. I hear people say to me all the time, "Oh if only I could.. But I just can't". It is that simple. If you want to do it, you will do it. ...

Chris Gilman wrote:I have to say, the wrapper is way too big and far from the helmet.
Chris it's a tilt buff not a wrapper. That particular helmet is a recreation of a close-sallet from the Beauchamp Pageant. The original did not have a wrapper either.

Historical. Braces the spine but no protection needed on the sides cause you don't joust backhanded. Ergo less weight more comfort.

Re: Jousters a Horse Opinion Needed

A PRE is a fabulous horse for a very experienced rider (in general). They are highly sensitive and inappropriate for a beginner rider/jouster. There may be exceptions but as a generalisation, that is pretty sound. If 'cheeky bugger Ken' has one and it is going good then the odds are already against ...

Re: Jousters a Horse Opinion Needed

Ideally down here we like a horse somewhere between 15-16hh, but I know the bigger breeds do get used over there. The best thing to do is go and see the horse and take some maille and small pieces of armour and a waster or pool noodle. Temperament is the most important thing, closely followed by tem...

One tip: if you need to slightly amend them for fit, don't let my mother do it. 15th century poo catchers are most unnattractive.

Normally referred to as US Heavy, normally denoting the wearing of 16thC style armour, solid dowel lances and gridded grandguard and tilt buff set up.

I guess the point Ben makes is so right. Your choice is personal and the research phase is so much fun. If you are going to do US heavy then don't go get a shark Perry harness ( they are well respected) but if you are asking the question here then you don't want a Rennfaire harness I suspect. Look a...
