FS: Large mycenaean greek shield

Large mycenaean greek shield Not sure of name or historical detail. Boeotian or Dipylon ? Well made, solid wood, covered in leather in front. Boss and accents are real bronze, not plated metal. Straps in back are partially detached. Handle feels very solid. Large, over 3.5 feet - 44 inches x 43 inch...

lorica squamata

I'm going to play around with attaching scales to maille. Looking at lorica squamata images it appears some of them were attached to maille rather than with rivets or sewing to a backing. Is that accurate from historical examples? Anyone try this design? I know the ring lord scales work well with ri...

I have a #10 which I don't use much, but you'd need to order the dies from RW. last time I checked they were ~$30 each (one male one female) and you probably don't need the ability to punch 1/4" plate...
I'm on a limited budget but were you thinking about selling your #10? Just checking.

Re: Looking for roper whitney punch/dies

Thanks guys.

I found some options on ebay too. Some are $25-30 a pair which is a lot for a single size, but if they last 20 years then I guess it's worth it. I only want the large sizes anyway. I did find one set for less than $15

Re: Looking for roper whitney punch/dies

Thanks for responding. I did see the ad, but no dies. Thanks, but I need a project to keep myself engaged, and punching washers is not bad. Also a custom order is out of price range. At the moment punching 7/16 from brass but the dies are a knockoff brand and already having issues. I'll have to keep...

Looking for roper whitney punch/dies

Long shot, but does anyone know an affordable source for larger roper whitney (or quality) punch/dies? I am punching some chainmail washers.

Not the No 5. but larger like their XX punch. Larger than 5/16.

What Backing to use for riveting leather

I'm going to be playing with some leather scraps, riveting them to a backing to maybe build something wearable eventually. What's good for a durable backing? I heard leather too thin may tear or rip with wear. Would you go with canvas? nylon? Doesn't have to be accurate but functional. Like the atta...

Thanks for the tips on glue guys.

If glue was not used with linen armor, what did they do, just sew it together?

Glue for leather, linen, etc

I am doing some work with leather pieces and curious what kind of glue would be good for that?

Also, what type of glue would you use for linen, linothorax armor?

Re: Is Torvaldr still around?

I have some web design experience but it's been a while. Your site seems pretty simple in layout(which is good in my opinion). An update in pictures or data shouldn't be complicated.

I bought some hardened scale sized scrap pieces from you before. I'd be interested in more.

Re: Is Torvaldr still around?

I'm glad to hear you are still crafting.

I bought some leather scraps off of you some years back. I wanted to check and see if you had more?

As for your website, maybe someone here can give you a hand, for trade or something.

FS: Padded Jack - Sold

I bought this padded Jack on the archive from one of the Ukrainian merchants several years ago. It's been in my closet since. Has not been used in fighting(like new). Only tried on a couple of times. Quality construction and looks like it will hold up well to heavy use. Size - I wear a 2X shirt with...

FS: Heavy duty chainmail vest - SOLD

I purchased this off an archiver several years ago. It's a maille vest with heavy duty rings(10 gauge I think). Butted. Galvy coating. The weight is 50+ lbs. Good for an athlete or someone who wants to look badass. The previous owner said he swam in it and used with weight training. Asking $30. Woul...

FS: Veteran Peascod breastplate and backplate - SOLD

I reluctantly sell this as it's such a nice piece(and fits me well), but it's been sitting on a shelf and still has use left in it. Made by Howard Noble many years ago.
