Re: Riveted Historical Bascinet?

I think it looks like an older (70s-80s) SCA attempt at a basinet. I've seen a lot of SCA helms with riveted liners and chain mail attached through holes along the bottom edge.

Re: Off on a new adventure -

Yeah, during my parry device (Cloak and buckler) auth I went lizard brain and gave my opponent a thumb lead to the back of his arm. I pulled it, but still... He was cool about it, we continued and I got the auth. As long as you can pull it, barely make contact, and draw cut then that's valid. A lot...

FSoT: Splinted Vambraces: Price Drop

I made these several months ago to use until my new arm harness came in. I usually don't sell stuff, I prefer to give it away and "pay it forward" so to speak. Unfortunately I don't have that luxury right now. The splints are tempered spring steel, I'm not sure the alloy or thickness because it was ...

Re: Mild steel corazina kit for sale.

What are the chances of this kit being made in stainless steel? Is it possible to do one for a 60 inch chest and belly? Why would you want this in stainless? You're going to be putting the plates inside of a shell, so you can just spray them with rustoleum. Rustoleum eventually flakes off with use....

A couple weeks ago my mother in law was helping organize the closets. During this process she put all my garb into a heavy black plastic garbage bag.... can anyone see where this is going?..... Yep! All of my garb now lives in the local landfill. That being the case, I need new garb. I'm looking for...

Find a large mirror. Get armoured up and take your fighting stance. Look for weak spots in your defense. Slowly throw shots like you would at a pell and study how your body moves with your shield as the sword moves.

Re: Next West Kingdom Crown Format

Making leg strikes equivalent to body/head strikes will (1) make an easier target a more rewarding one, and/or (2) promote the use of longer shields, which I find unaesthetic. I don't find knee fighting to be a wonderful alternative, but it can be aesthetic if practiced similarly to the custom in A...

Question: 14th C. children's garb

What would children, more specifically babies, have worn during the latter 14th Century? I'm expecting to take my baby girl to an event in a month or so and would like to have some garb made for her. My persona is 1390's English and it would be nice to have something to match my persona. Thanks, paul

If you want to weld without waiting an hour or two and having to run the burner(s) flat out you do NOT want to do a sand and plaster liner. NO NO NO! (plaster doesn't stand up to forge welding temps anyway.) You will want an insulative and or flux resistant lining material. (Most of the best insula...

Gas forge question.

I asked this in Off Topic, but decided to post it here as well. I've decided to build a gas forge. I've been doing a bit of blacksmithing and knife smithing with an open pan forge, but coal is hard to come by here and charcoal isn't getting quite hot enough to do forge welding. Also, I live in Louis...

If I remember correctly it has to do with how it breaks if it fails. Fiberglass brooms out kinda like rattan. PVC breaks into jagged, sharp pieces.
