Helmet for Sale
I had this helmet made for me by Dragonheart Armoury, with the intention of making a crusader kit. However, I have come to the conclusion that I'm not likely to ever complete the kit, so I am selling the helmet. I had intended originally to add etched brass nasal and bling to the face and top, but I...

Re: FS: Partial Japanese SCA armour
What kind of material is the body made of? And what game did you build it to personally use in? As I stated in the description, the white part is white plastic, with cloth covering the main body of the do. The red you see around the edge of the chest piece is leather, and the lacing is likely shoel...

I got this Do in a trade with Armourbug01 many years ago when I had delusions that I was going to build all these different rigs. I'm clearly not going to get around to a Samurai rig, so I thought I'd throw it out there and see if someone can use it. I'll run this auction style. Top bid after a coup...

Most likely birch plywood Where are you getting your birch? I ask because the stuff you get at Home Depot/Lowes isn't birch, it's birch veneer over crap wood. It's designed for cheap cabinetry, not for any sort of abuse. I make 10-20 laminated plywood shields a year, and I only use 100% Baltic birc...

The current draw with the string I made is 8 inches, exactly.

Also lots of shops at malls and flea markets who have vinyl cutters and will make whatever you want for a reasonable cost.
Barring that, Armourbug up there does custom vinyl decals. I recommend his work highly.

My experience is that a good plywood shield does not weigh significantly more than an aluminum one, and it reduces fatigue to your hand by transmitting less vibration from the blow. What's the weight of your AL blank?

I built my own 16' diameter yurt and I love it. It's a little bit more to haul than a marquee tent because of the lattice and door. After years of making shields in a press just like that, my strongest recommendation to you is to use 100% Baltic birch plywood from a good supplier. The crap you're going to get from a DIY store is not worth the effort.

It was more so excitement at the idea of the thing. And a 26x36 heater has come out to about 5.5 lbs. Not sure how that compares 3/8" of plywood in weight. I make laminated shields out of Baltic birch (no filler woods!), and a 3/8" thick shield will be about 7.5 lbs, give or take. The weight of a s...

I'm pretty sure you can only use tubular ammo with the heavy 1000lb*in bows. I've only seen fellwalkers on shafted (fiberglass), but if you're using them on tubes, you should be okay. -C A 'Fellwalker' bolt is a specific construction of shafted bolt which were specifically developed for heavy cross...

Payne-Gallwey's book is okay, but I find it both lacking in detail as well as overgeneralizing about many aspects (apparently this was common for writers of his period to declare that because there was an example of x use or technique, therefore all used x.) I recommend 'A Survey of European Crossbo...
