I really cannot see a sca person involved in a real fight dropping to a knee or giving "point of honor"....At worst they may not go in for the coup de grace and try to limit the violence(not kicking somebodies ass hard enough gave me a 4" scar on one of my temples....I did not install enough fear & ...

Vitus: I would agree with your statement that the ranks system runs off weaklings and so forth only if you agree if it is done properly...I'd go into further detail, but I'd risk sounding like a whiner...people do fall through the cracks and some people are either fast tracked or are the product of ...

Good point on the goob factor....I wish i could verbalise accuratley the strange training of a person fighting in the sca.....Unless they have been picked and chosen by a high level fighter and brought in to the game, most of us start out in the "goob pool".....We are given instructions in the basic...

First a question then a comment.. Question: When test cutting do you single strikes and concentrate on form(like a lot of ema people tend to do) or do you do a series of cuts & thrusts to learn how not to get your blade stuck in a target? I hope that made sense....I am envisioning something along th...

Rock on! A person from ARMA ! Mr. Pleasant, could you please explain why someone who tried to join your orginization was denied membership they say is due to a former membership to the SCA? And fearghus wins the award! I may of not been clear in my posting...Quarterstaff fighting would be that weapon vs the same.....maybe some differances in size....As for documentation, yep, silver talked about lengths...and he made many allusions to the staff and "traditional" lengths.... I did not m...

I think they could give most armoured guys something to think about. unless you were keeping them around 6' I do not think rattan would be a good choice....anything...

Since we have been digging up dead horses and flogging their mummified carcasses....What is your opinion about allowing quarter staff combat in the SCA? I'm thinking a seperate gig...in other words it would not be a weapon you could choose for tourneys or melees.....Is our armor up to snuff to do th...

Cool, thanks for taking the time to explain. And you are right about the bounce aspect with rattan.....I've been using buckler alot and have been trying to work on angling the blade so as to direct their sword during a block/parry or to try and trap their blade between my buckler and their shield......

I know we are talking about fighting, but in defense of the sca and whether or not what we do is "historical".....I've learned how to make armor, the reasoning for how armor evolved and the same with weapons.....I've learned how to cast bronze and silver....to make leather starting from a green hide...

And I am saying that you can say your book says this or that, but the truth of the matter is you are fighting a prescribed technique with prescribed moves and counters.....it is not a slight or a slam but the truth....it is like sca people who only fight local....you get so used to knowing what shot...
