Arrows nocks were reinforced with horn, I bet the ones that came off Mary Rose where of mostly white-brown color. But then being underwater for hundreds of years may have discolored the horn. I'm with you on this Tom, no more black arrows nocks on my next crap load of arrows I make... Miles mm.. wh...

Hi Gwen Moose-Eating-Attack-Mosquitoes there bad I still think I have some scars from them the Canadian's use Listerine mouthwash they pour it on the ground in and around there tents it seems to work for area control. By the way a Yew wood staves cost about $150+ and $30 shipping from westcoast to eastcoast US What sort of yew? Plantation yew is grown too fast to make a decent bow. IIRC Hardy reckons that Oregon produces staves that more accurately resemble medieval yew. Pacific Yew or Western Yew Taxus brevi...

RJ There was a wooden yew self-bow prod crossbow found in a dich around a castle in enland, but I do not have info on hand right now as my laptop is in the shop for repairs. Irish I wonder if the paint makes the difference? In Grey's we have one painted tent and is does not leak, that has been well proven for 12 plus years.
