Yes! I could find neither Clan nor Tower either. The McNeals were the most famous Pirates I thought and thier little Castle on a rock is still there in Castle Bay, Barra. There was however a real submarine the U999 and there are many ruins on rocks in the Hebrides and many happenings that are infreq...

Tower of Glim?

Anybody know anything about it, was it real or some kind of April Fool? I read about it in Ian Weekley's 'Buildings for the Military Modeller' but can only find one mention on the internet. The Submarine that allegedly blew it up existed in the second world war but not the first?

The other way of doing it - which is less accurate for 14th but is fine for later hats is to rivet a band of leather around the inside of the helm and then whipstitch the liner to that. It is an accurate method for the 14th century, the Lyle for one has this method, and this is the method used befo...

Well the edge is turned so that accounts for the thickness there, but blow it up on screen to the measurements given and the edges on the dome and where the rim attaches to the dome are quite substantial.

If they are cast in brass, bronze, silver etc they should be fine as long as the metal is good to start with, casting steel is beyond normal jewellers capabilities excepting those that do platinum.

They were going Frogmouth a lot earlier than that, the Tomb the Famous Pembridge used to hang above has a helm going that way from circa 1375. I wouldn't call the Pembridge greathelm a frogmouth at all. Its ocularium arrangment is very conventionally helm-ish -- two slots and a riveted nasal tab. T...
