Re: Lamellar-divided war skirt

I made a skirt that is about 1 foot long and divided into four sections for mobility. It needs to be longer because the flaps bounce up when I move and wrap shots can get under the armor that way.
That's all.

Re: Want to progress a bit... in quality/appearance

The brow band is a little too wide, top to bottom.

Welding the bar grill instead of riveting seems like it would be much faster.

Re: First Helm done

Good work on your first helm, hope you enjoyed it enough to try more. The topper you show is just one of my standard finials that I cast here at my shop. I think the original master was worked up from some odd lamp fitting with some file work & a large knob rivet set in the top. Wish I had pics of ...

Re: First Helm done

Thanks for the grit breakdown. I now have an idea where to start. I did gunk up my metal grinding wheel with aluminum, but it still "works." Probably because the aluminum is so soft. Shiny, what Patternweld said about covers it. Abrasive belts for the belt sander are very much like using carborundum...

Re: First Helm done

PatternWeld, I did use bolts and nuts and the fit is excellent. I made a template of my skull with flashing and then taped padding to it so I could size the helm quickly. I would like to sand now that I have a belt sander. I don't know which grits/types to start/end with. I don't know what to attach...

Konstantin, I didn't have a belt sander when I made this and I am guessing that would have made nice rounded smooth edges. losthelm, I left the leather edges undyed in the photos to show thickness. First Helm done

So...I bought a stainless Hjalmar helm to start with. Awesome price to quality ratio, but the skull wasn't dished enough for my tastes. I paid full price for a helm by Otto during his "sale" to help him out and got axx raped instead. So next I tried making my own helm. Here is the result: http://mem...

Re: Is there a "NO PLASTIC. PERIOD" Movement in the SCA?

A no plastic movement would actually decrease participation in the SCA (hard to believe it could get any lower, but it could). Implement "Inclusion policies/rules", not "Exclusion policies/rules" SCA.org. If the organization/members want less ugly kits then the REAL solution is for the SCA.org to ta...

What needs to happen NOW is a change to a true democratic rule. The SCA should make a forum. Only paying members get to register on it. Anyone can make a poll on a new/old policy/rule. If, after a year, if 75% of the votes go one way then it gets made into an official rule. That will help steer the...

omg just make everything Large size then draw dotted lines where the customer can cut if they want it Medium or Small.

For helms it's a little trickier but you can still do things like cut the brow and sagittal bands Large and have the customer custom size it with a jig saw.

Zweihammer has a computer controlled cutting system to crank out kits, I would imagine Knotwolf like myself and others relies on much more simple cutting tools. @Knotwolf

Sell kits. Stop wasting your time on the low-skill aspects of helm making. Zweihammer has buyers do lots of the work.

Use the same pricing and offer it in stainless since you won't be doing the dishing and voila, whole new customer base with no trauma to the arm.
