Re: tunic or kaftan-like gambeson
When I made my first gambeson (getting ready to start my second), I used just one layer of batting all over, with an extra layer on the shoulders and the elbows. Over time the elbow padding has worn down enough that I slip on a neoprene pad underneath it now, but that is after 4 years of weekly wash...

Looking for maille riveting tool.
Does anyone have a maille riveting tool they would like to get rid of? I'm looking for one to do flat ring dome riveted maille. I can order a new one but thought I would check to see if anyone had a used one lying around.

Looking for Lyst Field designs.
I would like to make new lyst fields for our barony, but before I propose the idea I want to have a good plan in mind. Our current set is plain, in need of a facelift, and really doesn't work that well anyways. It has a bunch of 2x4's for the uprights held in bases with ropes strung between. It work...

Stainless Rus Helm FS
I have a 14ga stainless steel Rus helm from Hjalmr I'm looking to sell. If you are not familiar with his stuff, it's still a rough finish and needs a bit of work to make really pretty. This helm needs sanding and polishing, and either a maille, cloth, or leather drape to finish right. It is legal to...

Best helm padding
I know this has been brought up before, but what is everyone's opinion on the "best" helm padding and chin strap arrangements? I've always used the foam spangen method, but my new helm I want to be really comfortable. I want to be able to put it on and take it off easily, and wear it all day without...

Latin motto help
I'm wanting to register a motto in Latin and need some help. What I want is "look to the end". When I put that in Google translate I get "respice finem". When I translate "Look towards the end" I get "prospicimus finis". Can some educate me on the nuances between the two?

Re: round shield/rawhide edging
I'm a little late to the conversation, but a few thoughts on what I've done. I've found that Baltic birch plywood works better and last longer than the stuff you can get at HD. For the handles I use a one inch oak dowel ripped in half. I make it long enough to go nearly across the diameter, and then...

medieval haircut?
So, I've been growing this mop of hair out since October with the sole intenion of doing something fun with it at Gulf Wars. "Viking Raid" deed of arms at Gulf Wars XXIV!
The Vikings are coming! Wednesday of Gulf Wars at 5:00 p.m. in the Fort. This year there will be a Viking Raid at Gulf Wars. This is a Viking era deed of arms featuring highly period arms and armour, special combat conventions, hordes of loot and plenty of Viking age violence. Spectators are more th...

Re: Viking Gorget - Or, how not to stick out like a sore thu
I wear a simple hood underneath mine and fold it back over the top. It's basically the same kind of hood rapier fighters use, except a single layer of linen. Totally hides my gorget and i can pull it up over my head to keep the sun off when I'm not wearing my helm.

Custom Wood Shields in Time for Gulf Wars
I make custom wood shields, covered in burlap and edged in raw-hide. Below are some examples of ones I’ve done in the past year or so, and a rough break down on the prices. I can still do a few more in time for delivery at Gulf Wars. I can do almost any size, shape, color or detail you want. If you’...

If you are going to hide it all, I would suggest: legs- Whatever padded sliding shorts you find comfortable knees- Bokalo wingless aluminum knees attached to McDavid softball knee pads . kidney- A wide weight lifting belt. This is pretty much minimums, but I find it super comfy. I can wear this all ...
