Re: Meridian Spring Crown List 2014
I wish I was going to be. Seriously, I turn this book manuscript in and immediately jump into my whiskey and bourbon book, so much of my June weekend time is going to be spent at distilleries (I have a really, really hard life). I will try to send you Seth.

Re: Meridian Spring Crown List 2014
My best guess for a final four are Auk, Kenneth, Samuel and Khalil, but with caveats based on things like health issues of the day. This is almost an unhandicappable list - Cona's recently off injured reserve, and while he's a great guy, I'm not sure he has the stamina to make it through a list this...

Re: Fall 2013 Meridian Crown List
Eirik, granted, I'm the one who pushed for the Meridian horse badge (and love it, and wear the cotehardie with the horses), but when did we become the "stallion throne?" (I'm willing to give you Adhemar's faint resemblance to a very young Stallone, but still ...).

Re: So what is the correct footwear for a kilt in period?
The modern concept of the kilt was the creation of an English businessman as an alternative to the belted plaid round about 1725 or so, for workers in his Scottish iron foundery. His business lasted about a decade but the kilt stuck, got adopted as a military garment by colonial-bound Scottish regim...

Re: Meridies Crown List
The final four were: Ailgheanan and Kenneth (finals), rounded out with Gnaeus and Wolfgang. I think my favorite fight of the day, other than the finals, which were beautiful, was one between Kenneth and Gnaeus. THL Bart was offered the accolade of knighthood, for those who know him - I think many do...

Re: Meridies Crown List
Final four will be Ailgheanan, Samuel, Kenneth and probably Geoffrey. Dark horses are Khalil and Gnaeus. Ailgheanan has had a minor injury, but he will be fine. Of those six, four are major sewing commitments for me. Sigh. I am never going to get anything new made for myself, even though I am out of...

Cunliffe's "Europe Between the Oceans" is required reading as well. Of note, there are plenty of real, serious Iron Age Celtic/Gaulic folks that play in the SCA world, not just the guys in plaid cotton Walmart pants sporting fake Irish accents running around the Pennsic food court.

Re: Pretreating wool?
I'm with Charlotte. I pre-wash nearly every piece of wool that comes into my possession. I've only once had someone further shrink a garment I'd made him of wool, and he put into a full machine set on hot, then a full dryer set on hot, and it got fulled within an inch of it's life. Back from Gulf Wa...

Don't even start me. Rest assured, when he moved here he was not welcomed nor has the Midrealm welcomed him since he started to play there after we gave him the cold shoulder. I've heard a collection of rumors upon why this was not acted on in Ansteorra, but it is all hearsay.
