Thanks for the links folks.

For a more specific time I am portraying a Squire flitting between Oxfordshire and Calais/Flanders between 1345 and 1360.

14th C English Currency/Pricing help needed.

Just wondering if anyone knows any good sources for mid 14th century English wages, prices and general money info. Trying to fluff my persona out with currency to keep on hand and my google-fu is not bringing up much.

Online info preferable as I have way too many other books to buy :P

Thanks!

There are lots of edge blocks/deflections used in rebated steel combat. The swords don't break easily at all. I was using an Atar blade for awhile. It has a few nicks. No biggy. there's a *significant* difference in durability of a rebated 1.5mm radiused edge and a chisel-sharp edge, though. And al...

In historical combat it is often mentioned to attack the flat with the edge or receive the edge with your own flat to deflect and then attack.

Blocking with the edge will work once or twice but after a while your VERY expensive sword will likely snap or require needlessly expensive repair work.

As great as this fighting is it is often a shame at the limitations out rules put on great weapons that invariably result in fights becoming nothing more than fencing/sniping. I did love that last spear fight with the body checks and holding the spear in thirds :P

I dislike the fact that that I have a 14th century persona and my garb is basically cheap ugg boots and tunics/old warband hospitaller robe (which I love) ;) My concentration on Marshalling and personal fighting practice means I never do any worthwhile A&S pursuits. That I let my physical disabiliti...

You sir are an inspiration. As a disabled person trying to fight again I know how hard it can be to make things work. (I have both my arms but the shoulders dint fit the sockets properly so are loose and in constant pain) I salute your dedication and hope you have many years of fighting ahead of you...

I'm currently working on braies, hose and some tunics from the Romance of Alexander.

Also trying to learn to embroider so I can make a badge or two to go on a tunic or bag.

Never had any luck with sewing machines but after being taught to hand sew it's really quite simple :)

Tents of the Crusades

Greetings all!

Just curious if anyone has good resources on tents used during the crusades. Basically anything before 1300 would be good and I am interested in both Christian and Islamic designs.

Thank you in advance!

Sword belt info

G'day folks

Just wondering if anyone here has a link to a good DIY guide for making a sword belt, mainly the knotting and tying around the scabbard.

Ideally suited to a late 12th century Hospitaller sword.

Thanks :)

One thing that makes me think that using more spears would be a good idea is that quite often pas' in history, when described quite frequently mention the combatants using cut lances. I'm sure that people who are fighting properly would only be using them if they were going to be useful. Hit points ...

Exactly, i'm after fingertips so they don't get mashed.

If the fingertips prove to be too slippery then a small amount of rubber should help to fix that.
