Re: ISO rapier legal polish zupan/coat

No, I'm not going to sell or make you one, but what I did was order the pattern from Reconstructing History, and the appropriate linen on-line. If you can find someone to sew that might be your best bet.

Actually, those seemed to me to be hard riveted solid, so the top part still acts like a single plate even though it looks like the articulated lames. Agreed. Not being an armorer I wasn't sure if the aspect that made it solid was the rivet between the plates, or the rivet from the plate into the a...

...and how are you going to gauge when someone throws a wrap? At that point it becomes an impediment similar to wearing a scabbard that blocks leg shots. Remember, we're assumed to all be wearing the same kit, not armor as worn.

Well, that depends upon the era that you're trying to recreate. From what I've been able to research the pre-1600 version had bands all the way up the chest, though those appear to have been attached to a ring around the arm hole.

I think I remember seeing them priced at $350 a piece. Having made a couple of these, I will tell you that depending upon the pattern you use and your skills it can be a somewhat long process. Not necessarily difficult - at least I didn't think so - but there are a number of steps.

Looks like a standard "kapalin" helmet, which came into use by the Polish hussars towards the very end of the 16th Century. There are some very good examples at the Polish Military Museum in Warsaw. I couldn't find the picture from the museum I was looking for, but this has some examples: http://pol...

Pavise...a subject near and dear to my - and my squire's - heart. I'll start with "good luck". Historically they appear to be constructed out of a single piece of wood. There's a guy in Poland who built one this way: http://dregowia.blogspot.com/2010/08/pawez-pruska-karkoomna-proba.html I've built a...

This sounds awesome. The only thing that I see that could make this more fun is add a "wheel of weapons" - think wheel of fortune but instead of dollar amounts the wheel is split up into weapons styles and the spin indicates what weapons style each bear pit has to use to fight in each round. ie. Sw...

Replaced? Not in the sense of totally totally. The true pavise was a bulky, specialist item. five feet tall or more: a portable, temporary fortification, used by crossbowmen -- perhaps other archers too. Actually, the pavise started to appear in far Eastern Europe, especially in Lithuania and the M...
