I have that one too, but I am convinced I need a four point chin strap. I don't have a lot of room for error in my close fitting helm.

Helm strapping material
In my helm (see my avatar for a pic), I have a four point chin strap with a football chin cup. Like this: http://www.bayerteamsports.com/images/sklady/riddell_360_hard_cup_bk.jpg It is attached to four plastic buckles from an army surplus helmet strap kind of like this: http://cdn.shopify.com/s/file...

Re: What sort of place and period is this breastplate?
James, thanks for the advice. At this point, I'd rather change my persona to match my kit than change my kit to match my persona. I am partial to my armor and helm, and it is a small sacrifice to change my mere sketch of a persona to fit what kit I have. So that may mean I need a later period person...

Re: What sort of place and period is this breastplate?
Neat pics, Ernst! I have seen that thread, Ursus. There's some beautiful living history kits on there. Looks like there are lots of options for shoulder armor on the crusader side. On the Saracen side, I am still looking. There were facemask style helms similar to mine, but pointier. This one also s...

Re: What sort of place and period is this breastplate?
Thanlks, world antiques. I'm pretty sure your breastplate can be documented to North America, circa 1990. If you really have your heart set on using it in a middle eastern type kit, maybe wear it under some kind of robe? I have been in the SCA for a while, and I am trying to make my kit more period....

Ok, I wasn't saying it was the same thing, I was saying that I thought the simple square plate design was early and wide spread.

Re: What sort of place and period is this breastplate?
Thanks Irish. I am trying to nail it down to a period that will fit the kit I already have. Maybe that's bass-ackwards, but I am going to give it a shot.

Re: What sort of place and period is this breastplate?
Thanks for the link, Ernst! The later 16th century example on that page is plates linked by mail, with a round plate in the front. Looks like the term is char-aina. When it's on, it is boxy like a linothorax, but the construction is different. Armstreet calls this armor Ottoman. http://armstreet.com...

What sort of place and period is this breastplate?
I have this breastplate, and I have am have been using it for a vaguely middle eastern kit, but I want to move towards a more documentable kit. I need to replace the shoulders and thought I'd get something more authentic. My persona is a Jew in the middle east during the crusades. Not very specific,...
