HRS stands for Hot Rolled Steel last time I looked. http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/smile.gif anyways, I know I'm using a larger than needed hammer... I was rushing this piece through. I'll try the edge inward style on my next one, which may be this weekend. I've used both styles of dishing over th...

Deep dishing
So, I was dishing a boss for a center grip shield this evening. Using 14Ga HRS as my material. I got it pretty deep and then it thinned out so much the metal finally split in the middle. It's deep enough to use and I've finished it by putting a decorative 16Ga plate in the middle. So it will work. I...

The good ol "wheel of doom" or "Wheel od misfortune" style tourney. They can be fun and can also be very aggravating if the weapon styles you get against an opponent with a much better one than yours. I did one this spring at Maye Tourney at the Barony of Thor's Mtn and ended up with pole against sw...

Sure, you can use it on steel. The more teeth you have on your blade usually the better it will cut (and cleaner too). The rule of thumb for sawing metal with any kind of saw is to always have at least two teeth on the metal at one time. This keeps you from popping teeth off the blade. The ones I us...

Generosity. I do think the other virtues are good... honesty, loyalty, honour and grace to name a few. I think a knight gives much more of him/herself than others do. They offer to others their support, strength, knowledge and friendship without others having to ask. Small things like offering you a...

Display Armour?
Okay folks, here's a good one for you. My in-laws church is building a display in which they want to have a full suit of plate armour. They asked me if I would consider building such a suit and how much it might cost. My reaction was that even if I made ot out of 18 ga or thinner metal it would stil...

I guess I've always been a "wrist flick" kind of fighter. I was taught to fight from the wrist by the Knight who taught me when I first began fighting. I use other techniques for throwing blows, but the fastest, most accurate, and powerful blows I throw are from mainly the wrist and lower arm. My bl...

I think single sword, bastard sword, great sword, pole, and spears should be used at the barrier. If sheilds are to be used they should be rather small... not much bigger than a buckler. Hiding behind a huge shield (a kite for example) at the barrier would, as Thorgrim put it make you look "less bra...

Barriers
I'm thinking about building a barrier for myself and some local fighters to try. I would like to ask anyone who's tried it or has a thought on it.... how high should the barrier be? Keep in mind it's going to be wooden and as solid as I can manage so it will be able to take blows itself if needed. I...

Lisa is right. Yard sales and salvage yards are good spots to look. Where I live, I am about 10 miles from one of the bigger flea markets in TN. There are guys there who buy tools in bulk to sell and you can find a good deal at several of the booths there. $2.00 for ball peins that can be modified f...

My thoughts on this. I've used wooden shields for the last eight years or so. I currently use a period constructed shield a friend made for me and it has held up for over two years now with a good amount of fighting done with it. It is a curved heater covered in canvas with a light gessoing on the f...
