Re: Pattern Archive - Who's Mantaining It
What would people think of setting up a pattern wiki? Patterns could be cross referenced by a bunch of factors; period, author, skill level, ect. Uploading should be easier also, so the Mod would only have to cull flagged patterns. I would be happy to work on it if there is interest There has been ...

Re: Legal Blades for Battle of Nations combat?
How do the hanwei blades do against the other blades? I was thinking about getting one but I was worried it would break. You'll sometimes get a bad blade from Hanwei but by and large their quality control is pretty good (I"ve seen maybe a handful snap in 6 years of steel combat) and most of us here...

Maybe I'm missing something, but I always buff on the side of the wheel that is spinning down and away from me. Every time I've had the buffer grab something out of my hand it either goes straight down into the ground or, it it's small, goes out away from me. If you are buffing in such a way that t...

Re: WTB Sabatons
It occurs to me that you most likely mean size 10-11 in US sizes which are a size above AU sizes. so in US sizes my Sabatons are most likely around a size 11-12 (It's difficult to give an exact size as they were made to fit a particular pair of boots.)

Dont use WD-40 or fish/silicone based oils on your gauntlets, a lanolin based oil will help keep your leather supple as well as protecting the steel.

+1 to talbots pattern although with a bit of tweaking sinrics can be used to make some nice hourglasses.
IMO you will need to make the metacarple plate around 1" longer on both patterns

You *may* be able to use that torch it you can get a larger burner head for it with a correspondingly larger needle valve. My Primus TradeFlame torch started out not much bigger than yours, now it gets 2.5mm up to a basic working temp, its slow and it uses a lot of gas but it works. Otherwise try an...

I am rapidly coming to the opinion that coloured candles are an entirely modern contrivance as up until about 30-40 years ago they were entirely utilitarian. I had thought that there might be some evidence of decorated or coloured candles in the high middle ages as the wealthy did seem to decorate p...

Coloured candles
Okay, so I know coloured wax (particularly red and green) are in use from at least the 13thC for sealing documents and that coloured wax is in use from at least the 15thC for miniatures and busts for the church. But when do coloured candles start appearing? So far I cannot find anything outside of t...
