Re: Armouring As A Career
What about the Ukrainian guys at Armstreet? They seem to be pretty successful, although armour doesn't seem to be their main focus. I would guess that the exchange rate helps them quite a bit. I have bought some clothing from them, but I have seen some people who bought armour off them saying that i...

Looking for information on epilepsy in history
I have done a few google searches and clicked on links, etc., but I thought I'd also ask here (I am strong with the laziness). To narrow it down a little - I am particularly interested in anglo-saxon, norse, and rus thoughts/culture/issues with or on epilepsy. However, even if it's from other places...

Icefalcon, your stuff looks beautiful, and I've ordered from you before for maille, but those helmets are just out of my price range, especially once I add in the australian to US conversion.

Looking for estimates on a helmet
Hi! So, I am beginning to believe my current helmet is just a touch too small, and too light, so I am looking at getting a new helmet. Here is an album with a few pictures of my current helmet. http://imgur.com/a/5yZIU I would like a helmet roughly the same shape in the top half, and with the nasal ...

Re: Timid fighters..
I was sort of like that when I started. Then I started spear fighting - with no shield to turtle under, I now have to be MOVING! so either I attack or run, but either way, I am not simply turtling and being passive. It has helped my sword and shield game too - I find that I am more aggressive genera...

Re: Stakes in Aus?
The anvil only has one hole, a square one. I have a great vise. I massively overbought when I got the vise, and got the most robust one I could see. However, I have no way of grinding things right now, I need to replace the brushes on the small grinder I have. Going with the advice from here and fac...

Stakes in Aus?
Hi, I was recently given an anvil by some family, and I would love to be able to make my own shield bosses for a start. I talked to Ironmonger Armory, and he was really helpful, but the cost of shipping to australia raised his tools out of my price range for now. Would anyone know where I can find a...

Re: Nobility of europe, 400bce to 1450ce
I chose it because I figured it would cover the widest variations of the different styles of nobility, and ending at that time because from there out I have an alright layman's understanding for the next 200 years or so.

Re: Nobility of europe, 400bce to 1450ce
Yeah, I realize, and that's partly what I'm looking for information on - where the differences arose, how they arose, and what consequences that had, along with a general timeline of the basic evolution of the nobility. Multiple books are fine, books focused on single countries are fine, it's just g...

Nobility of europe, 400bce to 1450ce
Hi, Would anyone be able to recommend some books covering the evolution of the nobility of europe from about 400 b.c.e to 1450 c.e? Especially with regard to the different types of nobility, i.e. patrician city based nobility or warrior nobility or rural land holding and later feudal nobility? I rea...

Re: Hebrew Warrior 900BC
Alan, thanks for taking the time, but my problem when I first started looking at this was that the text isn't very specific, even if you read it in hebrew. I was looking for specifics that are just not found anywhere in the bible, especially if read in one of the many translations.

Re: Fought for the first time in maille tonight...
In order - I had a little trouble with the shoulders at the start but it wasn't really bunching as such, but I fixed that by pulling a little more above the belt so when I lifted it had some extra available. I had a bit of trouble with the ends of the sleeves, which I shortened to just above elbow l...

And wow, did it kick my arse. When I first got it on I thought, this is okay, shouldn't be too hard, the belt around the middle is distributing the weight nicely.... Yeah.... Start fighting, a short while in, I can feel the extra effort needed just to move around, every little change of posture is i...

Jade, as far as prestige goes, the fact that the warrior would be wearing maille would state that warrior social position loud and clear: that stuff was not cheap in those times.

Plus, I think the OP is not just falling into the trap, but leaping headfirst with a band playing, of seeing religion the way it has become nowadays - sort of an adjunct to life and not something that infused into every moment of waking life.

See the attachment for a sketch of the sectioned shoulder.
