I made what is basically a 'folded box' contraption out of pickle barrel, which over three shields and countless fights has held up far better than I would have expected, initially. It's light weight, and serves quite well... but it's admittedly ugly.

I dunno about others, but I've had good results from silly things like a DIY parts tumbler..
One of these, maybe for a longer run, but it could work..

A question I have is whether the Rawlings football zoombang stuff, etc, is "real" My local MOS (master of stables) appears to be under the impression that if you haven't spent a bundle on it, it's not "real" zoombang, therefore our KEM will have to rule on it.. I've been unable to find anything so f...

I don't know if anyone has suggested this, but Blackwell's Basic Armouring has been around for quite a while. There are patterns and basic explanations on how to put it all together, definitely a good resource. http://www.arador.com/armour/downloads/Basic-Armouring.pdf In the meantime, I'll see if I...

What KTR said..
I do QA work in an aerospace machine shop, and we do a lot of tool/die "punch-out" parts.
One off parts are a big pain in the ass, and a lot of trouble to set up for. The real money maker is when you're kicking out a large quantity of parts.

Patterns for riveted maille?

Do such things exist, or is it all guessing and gauging? I'm about to embark on a possibly maddening project of making riveted maille(Thanks Konstantin? ;) ) but I've found in my research that there will be 'issues', concerning tailoring. I don't know if I'll be using mild wire, or stainless, but th...

Riveted, yes. On that note...pliers for peening the wee rivets. Does such a thing exist? And for that matter, flattening the ends of the rings...what to use, other than a hammer? And punching the holes for the rivets themselves. A mandrel for making the rings is no biggie at all, as I've got stainle...

Re: Lamellar-vikings-normans real or invented for sca?

For me, this is a timely discussion. I'm working on a Norman/1st crusades kit, and while I like the look of lamellar, I'm not at all certain that it's accurate for the era. A small part of me keeps hoping that some evidence will turn up to justify lamellar, but I'm not holding my breath for it. For ...
