Re: Hitting the same spot mutliple times

Thanks! I'm still trying to find some of the edge I lost in Korea, but it's starting to come back. There is yet another new kit on the horizon. I'll be breaking it out soon.

Storvik Practice Monday 23 April

It looks like we will be coming into Storvik tomorrow night from The EK (some DE, some NJ) for the practice. We will have 2 or 3 rattan fighters and 2 rapier fighters. Since it's inside the church, I assume we will be good to go, rain or shine. Aside from having non-marking shoes, is there anything ...

Re: Hitting the same spot mutliple times

Yes, indeed. Athanaric can hit that same spot fast and hard. It has something to do with him being one of the aforementioned "silver backs", but he is also very technical. Hip turn and foot work, can't say it enough. The big strong mutants can get away with less technique but us normal sized mere mo...

Re: Simon's GWW Challenge

Thanks everyone who came out for my challenge. I fought in every war scenario, then moved to the challenge field for my fights. I ended up getting 44 fights, when all was said and done, because 2 people came over after I had finished my 42nd fight. What a fantastic day. Looking forward to 43!

Simon's GWW Challenge

All right folks, Some friends and I have kind of a birthday tradition. On the day, we fight a matching number of fights as years since our birth. This year, I was in Korea on my birthday and due to a number of factors beyond my control, was unable to honor this tradition. When I found out I would be...

Re: What are you training for?

What am I training for: all of the above. Why? Because I have to. Too general? Ok, here ya go: SCA - I train for Tourneys and Melee/War. I will fight in every tourney I can get to when I move to the East Kingdom. Then, I plan to fight in EK Crown as soon as I meet the residency requirements. I also ...

Vilhelm,

If your children are that important to you, you're already a hero. Many have children and don't give a damn about them. Sounds like you're doing ok to me.

Korea - Anyone else here that hasn't made contact?

One of our 3 fighters is leaving next week. Is anyone else out here that hasn't found us yet? Also, does anyone know how to get in touch with Duke Stephan of Bellatrix? He is supposed to be here but no one has been able to get in touch with him. We have loaner gear. We just need some more fighters.

BMF List by Area - Inspired by Nissan's Sword/Scabbard post

If you want to be the best, you have to fight the best. There are no shortcuts and there is no "Easy Button". After hearing everyone rave about what a BMF Nissan is, I started to think about this topic. Before I left Caid I knew I would have a year of very little fighting while in Korea, so I spent ...

BTW-Vilhelm, if you want a hero, be a hero. ...

Alternate Marshal Arts/Training Ideas

So, I'm currently in Korea. We have only 3 actual fighters that I have seen in armor. One leaves next week to move to Europe. We have a practice or 2 per month. I have gone back to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as a way of staying semi-combat ready. I go to the gym and do cardio and lift 3 days a week and do ...

I think Don Alexander has it nailed. Work on changing the footwork, use a center grip, plus in my opinion don't use a stabbing tip for a bit. Great weapon and spear are also good options. A lot of it though, depends on his abilities and interests. I also started off with rapier and to be honest, I s...

I fight a lot of sword and buckler. The one thing that nobody has talked about much yet is, getting in close. I mean really close. In my experience, you have to be close and very active with the buckler. A couple people mentioned binding, that works very well, but again you have to be close. I reall...
