Leaving this Friday for two weeks. First Pennsic was #12, missed one in 2002 but had a good excuse, open heart surgery to replace a valve damaged due to a staph infection.

Re: Marshal's Gauge

IIRC any weapon that can penetrate more than 1/2 inch in from the outside surface of the helm is a fail. For a standard 1/4 inch rod bar grill this means 1/4 inch penetration past the inside surface of the grill. Combat shafted missiles can not have more than 1/2 inch nock extending behind the APD. ...

Payne-Galway was a Victorian playboy and not everything in his book is right or authentic. There is a Scandinavian crossbow book by Egon Harmuth that is much better IMHO. The first crossbow I built in the early 90's for Mistress Lynette Dave'jean and still in use was a copy of the PG roller nut cros...

No problem having my weapons used against me, Lay On

Fair warning I also do combat archery.

Re: poles for canvas tent

Which threads are damaged.

External threads can be cleaned up with a pipe thread die that should not cost that much.

Internal threads, the elbows, it's probably cheaper to replace them.

Remember that pipe threads are tapered.

I wear a great helm built in 1982. 16 gauge overlapped joints OA gas welded both sides of all seams. OA welded because I have the equipment and had just finished the restoration of a 1941 Taylorcraft airplane & I had a lot of practice. Needed padding and I had several empty medical X-Ray tube shippi...

Late word from the Calontir Slum Lord is that the site is very wet.

The rain has destroyed all the fire ant hills so bring plenty of ant killer as you may find yourself camped on top of one.

Shade fly's around the battle are limited but no one will complain if you use a little space in one that is there. Calontir will have it's Purple Pavilion (aka Kin...

Seriously consider spending some time at inspection point and give back a little to our Society.

Even if you are not qualified to inspect there is other things you can help with.

Another related apparent problem with the Mandrake tip is if it is used during a light mist light rain it apparently lubricates the tip and helm just enough to let it slip in a legal helm when it folds. Even ones that are correctly maintained seem to be prone to this. I believe that the tip needs to...

Will be 74 for the 2015 wars, plan on fighting at Gulf, lilies and Pennsic. Authorized in 1982.

I stay away from areas where major pile up can happen because of a fused back.

Had to take a few years off starting 2002 for replacement heart valve and lumbar fusion due to staph infection.
