Re: Late 14th Century buckle attachment on armour.

Hmmmm, I wish I could find some good closeup pictures of Churburg's late 14th stuff. .....hard to find on the internet.

Does anyone have any recommendations of who to buy quality brass buckles from? I hear some out there may look good, but can be brittle and not hold up to punishment.

Late 14th Century buckle attachment on armour.

I'm finishing up a late 14th century breastplate based on the Churburg no. 14 example, and I've been wondering how 14th century buckles were typically attached to armour straps. Is there any archeological evidence that either stitching or a rivet was used to close the end of the strap that wraps aro...

late 14th century maille: how much was used under plate?

I have been studying late 14th century English effigies in preparation for reproducing my own harness. I understand that a haubergeon was worn under full plate at this time, but am unsure what exactly was worn under the leg harness. Many effigies that I have found clearly show maille guarding the ba...

Jeffry,

I would be interested in placing an order with Historic Enterprises, but am only interested in blackened maille. Any chance you might start offering that
option?

I just recieved information back from a reliable source at a museum stating that alternating solid rings were often used in Europe during the 14th century. This method was also used in india and asia. He also said that if you have round headed rivets it is typically from india or asia. ...like what ...

Given that Historic enterprises says they use the same gauge wire and ring size, I assume their material weighs the same. ...or am I missing something?

Recomendations for wedge riveted maille vendors?

I'm working on a late 14th century European harness and am looking for vendor that sells authentic wedge riveted maille with flattened rings.
...looking for shirts specifically.

Any recommendations? I hear the stuff coming from Russia is pretty good.

Thankya.

The main thing I'm looking for is photos of any original liners and chinstraps for bascinets. I was tipped off that the Churburg Armoury may have what I'm looking for, but haven't had any luck contacting anyone that can help me. I was told to look for ... the bacinet of armour no. 13 at Churburg, pu...

Researching 14th century basinets

I was hoping someone at the armour archive would be able help me out with some research regarding 14th Century bascinets. I am currently constructing a high point bascinet like the attached photo... This one is not intended for SCA combat. Unfortunately I haven't found any adequate primary reference...
