I would take the approach of helping the young-un make the armor, that way you do not have to lace anything. Then he has a pretty set of armor, and you are not out hours and hours of lacing. I have taken energy gels (Hammer Gel) while fighting melees because it goes down easier than solid food, and is good energy. But anything beyond that is kinda dumb IMO.

Ive blown anvils before. its not very good for the anvil, but its rather fun, and the concussion wave is something else. We use it to start a parade in Quincy, CA (or did the last time I was there) and you can hear the blast most anywhere in town.
