Re: Looking for new project

I can't handsew for shit! But I guess I'd get better with practice.

I have decided I'm going to learn how to make posaments, tablet weave by either buying a cheap loom or putting together a temporary loom with c clamps, and do pyrography.

Looking for new project

I'm looking for a new art to try. Something that can be done on the couch with the TV in the background, and done at events. I've tried and do not like: chain maille, cross stitch, njallbinding. I suck at embroidery, but it's the only thing I can come up with. If I can't find anything else I may try...

The Ironmonger "heart" basket hilt seems fairly low profile.
Does anyone have experience with it in person?

I've seen basket hilts on headed maces. I don't think that would cause an issue. It's the bar mace as a whole that is the real issue.

How the numbers looked through history

I'm working o a research paper exploring how different digits were written throughout history, and how they morphed into what we know today as the Hindu-Arabic numbers. I'm just starting, but it is already fascinating what I've learned. For a period of time in England the 5 was written as an open 4,...

Re: Gluing steel

The thought was to make my own basket hilt. Shape all the bars and use the glue to hold them in place until I take the whole thing to a friends house for welding.

I can still do it all, I'll just do it without the glue shortcut.

Char aina tombstone armor

Is there a way, other than trial and error, to figure out the best size and shape of this style armor? I'm making it out of plastic, and will cover it with a tunic. I'm a brand new fighter, so I want as close to full coverage as I can get. Without advise, I will use the tried and true cardboard meth...

Can I glue bars into the position I wanted them welded with a super glue to then have someone else weld it for me?
Will the superglue affect the welding/weldability?

Rattan basket hilt size

Almost all of the basket hilts I see look very large to me. Very oversized. I just assumed that it was the size they had to be. But I just watched a video of Duke Brannos, and his basket hilt is very low profile. Why are most basket hilts so large? Is there an advantage I'm not thinking about? Are t...

hmmm, the outline is made from large rivets or ornaments in silver, spaced by groups of 2x4 and 2x10 sets of smaller ones. The smaller circles are pearls I believe. To me, it appears to have been a vine pattern in gold, that was affixed to the darker or blackish lines. Vine pattern was my guess. Bu...

SCA belt favor / butt flag

The only belt favor I have worn is a piece of woven trim made for me by my daughter. I feel that is quite "period". I now have a new lady who will be playing, and I'd like to make for her a sort of flag/token with my arms or badge on it. What is a "period" option for me to make and give her? I can a...

Re: What is the technical term for a helmet like this?

I do not like the look anymore. Thanks for such a fiery discussion friends! This makes me sad. Fantasy pieces often look better than period pieces. Stating something is a fantasy helmet should not be a knock on the piece any more than saying something is a Vendel helmet. It's a good looking helmet!...
