Re: There is too much leather armour in the SCA.

Why leather? SCA is not "Living History". SCA-Combat is not historical swordplay, it is a kind of modern sports: hitting people with heavy wooden clubs. Try wearing historical correct armour, let's say 18 or 20 gauge helmets or body armor and play Heavy. Or better - do nor try that. Heavy Combat is ...

Easy.
Stop that nonsens with fighters shouting "light" when they got hit. Accept blows.
If you feel a blow, take it.
Don't need new technology. Just some common sense.

That's the armour I'm wearing at our FPs. I don't go to tournaments anymore, I need leight-weighted armour for lessoning.

I meant: wear a normal gambeson. And something protective under it. Zoombang Shirt may be enough.

Just don't stuff it with rigid material, wear some hidden armour under it. Zoombang shirt seems to be enough. Or a similar solution like plastic rib guards.
That's what I use with my sleeveless gambeson.

Standing and waiting or even running away (= moving backwards) is the technique of cowards. It leads to a weak mind and bad fighting spirit. And it has no honour. Maybe the coward hits earlier than the active fighter. But such victories are worthless. An active fighter may lose a fight but it streng...

Anyway: the active fighter is always the better fighter. The field of honour is not a camping-ground.

Look what electric scoring did to fencing..... Exactly. Meanwhile more and more fencer prefer the new old fencing style "classical fencing" which is fencing without electronics. And quite some time ago I've heard that the Japanese invented an electronic scoring system for Kendo. But nobody wants it...

In my active time I was never concerned. If something happened, it happened.

If you're using plastic for the plates and if you don't use rivets, it works.
You may either sew the plates on (at the inside) or make inside bags to put the plates in.

These protectors don't cover the sides of elbows/knees so IMHO they are no good choice.
Additonally, plastic armour can be made easily and costs nearly nothing while riot armour is rather expensive.
