review request for Art of Steel
Hi everyone, It's been a while since I last posted. I have been considering ordering several pieces for a late 15th C Gothic harness for use in UK reenactment with blunted steel weapons. One of the armourers that caught my eye were art of steel. What I am wondering is: has anyone ordered from them? ...

Re: assembling scale chausses
Hi, Thank you to everyone who has so far commented, it is appreciated as I had got to a point were I was stuck and wasn't sure how to progress. Those are indeed the scales I bought, I haven't found anyone selling anything closer to what would be appropriate. I'm not really in a position to make my o...

assembling scale chausses
Hi, I was wondering if anyone on the archive had any recommendations for attaching scales to their backing. The would be used in blunted steel combat (I'm based in Scotland). I'm aiming for a fit similer to the statue of St. George In Hradcany square in Prague. These are for a 1330-1350-ish knightly...

Hi,
I'm interested in the helm, what would postage to the uk be? If the other offers to buy fall through I'll take it.

Re: Get Dressed for Battle -- Total ripoff?
The thing to remember with get dressed for battle is that gdfb global and get dressed for battle uk are now different companies. Get dressed uk do good mail though the riveted stuff is a bit pricey. Their helms so far seem to be of a good enough quality in that no one I know of that has one has had ...

What thickness is the leather? and how much leather do you have?

Re: Unidentified mans gown in medieval costume book
yes I'd been told as such. Though the outfit in question is for a Knightly portrayal(sp?). I'd been under the impression that lowland Scotland tended to follow French and English Fashions during the 14th c though might be slightly behind. It had been that my understanding for this outfit a knee leng...

Re: Unidentified mans gown in medieval costume book
thankfully just submit designs, the sources have been left to me. It was a case of them really liking the look of the garment and being keen on it. Though I'd already mentioned a sleeved surcoat would likely be more appropriate.

Re: Unidentified mans gown in medieval costume book
Hi,
I've got a copy of fashion in the age of the black Prince. The group regionaly portray's the knightly classes with some men at arms in lowland Scotland towards the east coast. So far we've opted to go with the slightly older style.
Thank you
Dave

Re: Unidentified mans gown in medieval costume book
Hi, thank you, I suspected it was incorrect given that I haven't seen any examples of it in any of the period art I've seen. The group I'm with is concentrating on 1330 as an era for the time being so the gown would have been wrong in any case. As a point, is the book itself consistantly incorrect w...

Unidentified mans gown in medieval costume book
Hi, A member of the reenactment group I'm with has asked me about a mans gown like garment that appears on page 27 of medieval costume and how to recreate it by Dorothy Hartley (isbn 0-486-42985-7). It is identified as robe no.7 but there doesnt appear to be any description of it and no date range a...

$15- $20? possibly more if the pattern set is for the whole leg harness. I'd be happy to pay that.

I'd definately be interested in patterns for splinted arms and legs. I already have a copy of the coat of plates pattern and am going to make one once my current batch of kit projects are done.

theres a pattern in the patterns section that has full back plate coverage if i remember correctly, if not PM me and we can make arrangements for it to be passed on. Tandy leather has some very nice broad headed/fine shanked tacks that I used for my CoP and the worked well. As for the price, I think...
