First Kings?
I was reading on the history of the midrealm and wondered who were the first kings of each kingdom? How are they still honoured today? Are any still active, or alive?

Re: Is BotN just armoured wrestling?
I have fought full contact medieval combat with rebated steel. I have been hit hard enough with a greatsword and polearm to equate it to being in a car accident. The impact, though localized, can be that intense.

Re: blunted steel - what is the real fifference?
It is a matter of force, and in the case of each being swung with equal force, blunted steel can be more damaging to armor and your person. This also takes in to account that the armor is the same in both tests. A smaller area for impact has more force per square cm thus causing more damage. In a mo...

Check out the crossfit site on nutrition. Clean carbs, such as many veggies, and lean meats are best. In addition water.

Re: Will the BoTN change the SCA:s HF game?
BOTN is a completely different sport/hobby than the SCA. They may share some common themes but that is it. SCA becoming more like BOTN is like saying Basketball will become more like Golf because both sports use balls and wear shoes.

Win or lose, whatever. Each one of you going has the courage and fortitude to go way out of your element to a place where many fighters have more experience doing what they do. Well done on setting an example of bad-assedry.

A friend recommended Ice to me many years ago. I bought arms, legs, and a few other things to complete my kit. From many moons ago until now Ice has maintained a fantastic reputation. I think he is one of the best to meet period and sport in the SCA. I've purchased only from him in your list. The ot...

Re: unsolicited advice on fighting.
I was at a practice years ago and some lawn-chair commando was giving a new fighter the worst advice possible. We ended up fighting and he looked damn frustrated and confused. We fought and I tore him up x3. The next pass he asked me what he was doing wrong and if I had any advice. I happily replied...

Re: Attack or wait?
Standing and waiting or even running away (= moving backwards) is the technique of cowards. It leads to a weak mind and bad fighting spirit. And it has no honour. Maybe the coward hits earlier than the active fighter. But such victories are worthless. An active fighter may lose a fight but it stren...

Re: Attack or wait?
The best fighters in any fighting art always get into their opponents minds. It is 85-95% mental and 5-15% physical. Even those in great physical shape required loads of mental toughness to hit each workout. The majority of SCA fighters can throw good technique. That is the easy part. A person that ...

Make them do what you want them to. That is what the best fighters do. Next time you fight that knight make him throw the first shot.
