Re: A Video Review of Role Models and Comparisons To the SCA
Doesn't the SCA use foam swords for the lower ages of Youth fighting?
Otherwise, fine review. I never really thought of the movie as SCA related, probably because I'm too aware of LARP, and a local group called LAIRE.

Partial update: https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-h90ASHdQWR4/TiyKgpTcWvI/AAAAAAAABZk/ziPIo5zVJco/s640/11+-+1 First, it's not a 100% successful process. Mistakes happen. Second. I did find an example of a later cup, 1670's that has three sets of arms on it. One set for a person, and two for localit...

Re: Aldrevandini beaker
Hard to say. While there is a trend for identifiable heraldry in the later-period Central European enameled glassware (including the humpen et al.), I suspect this could well be heraldic design that's just decorative, without being associated with a particular individual or family or whatever. That...

Oh, brother. I'm rather disappointed in the description. If that is an accurate replica, that shield isn't yellow, but white. Yeah, I noticed the next day that I put the wrong field on BOTH of those cups. I've scraped it off and will be redoing the fields tonight. You can't see it, but the blue in ...

Does anyone know whose arms they are? That might go a very long way toward explaining things...or not ;) At least one of the arms is on the Zuricher Wappenrolle with the name NELLENBVRG http://www.vikinganswerlady.com/ZurichRoll/ circa 1320-1330 Roughly the same time as the cup being made. WOW... One question of "Is this rumor true" leads to this.. Guys/gals, seriously all I was trying to do was find out if a rumor was true..There is no way it could have been as has been pointed out that the East never signed on so how could they stop something they never started... More pointedly, the East has never recognized the White Scarf for just the reasons Tailoress states. Tailoress, thanks for heads up.. I didn't know the East didn't recognize the White Scarf to begin with The East was briefly in the treaty, but left in October of AS XXX, 15 Years ago. So this is... ...

East has two really cool events on that weekend... War of the Roses and Panteria. Last year I went to both. I wish they were on separate weekends, but I'm selfish that way. There's also Quest in Settmore Swamp that I'll be attending. This year should be a good year, despite the weather predictions....

Re: Changing SCA Name/Persona
Agreed not in court... would be cool if I could make a production of dying on the battle field and have my body carried off followed by an in camp funeral/Irish send off. The only problem with that is it would probably freak out the marshals and others on the field when they hear someone died. If y...

Alexander - What diameter black pipe did you use? Did you have much sagging with the queen size? I think it was 1" or there abouts. I thought 1/2" would be too small, and so I went the next size up. My plan for the bed was to make one like this http://www.daviddfriedman.com/Medieval/miscellany_pdf/Other_Articles_II_Furniture.pdf but with two completely different sets of ropes that share a center rail. The idea is that we could each adjust our side the way we want it. I made of these for pennsi...

Re: Cupboard for the Pennsic house
I'm not sure if this is the right place for woodworking hints, but here goes. On SCA-ish projcts, when I make stuff out of pre-ripped wood, I go over the exterior surface with a plane, so it takes off the outer sanded surface. It leaves an open grain that's just as smooth, and holds up under very cl...

Can you make one of these? See, that looks way more 16th-17th century to me. Agreed! The Roemer glass comes in around the 1630's. Nowhere near appropriate for the 14th c. Period Dutch paintings usually depict the Roemer glass filled with white wine. The Germans still use a variant of that glass for...

I've found that using a flat piece of wood as the flat side of a soapstone mold worked out. I'd be tempted to say just using a wood mo...
