Re: Decent sources for 100% linen?

Check out William Booth Draper at http://wmboothdraper.com/

This isn't the cheapest source, but everything he carries is the "real deal"; no poly blends or other modern materials or colors. I'm new to the SCA, but for my 1812 era projects I gotten most everything from him and it's all been fantastic.

Ah! That effigy is exactly the look that I was thinking of. I'm actually waiting for the local library to get a copy of TOMAR on inter library loan, though I would assume to this properly I'll need to track down my own copy.

Thanks for the welcome-Eric

Continuing with the 14th Century theme, can anyone point me in the direction of a jupon pattern? Since the sleeves are pretty volumous, are they open under the arm, or do they just fit very close to the arm for full range of motion? Are they as thickly padded as the gambesons? I've been reading abou...

Gentlemen, this has been incredibly helpful! I think I'm pretty well sold on the 14th century kit both for it's looks and the fact that I can make the quilted armor and coat of plates relatively simply. Starting with simple soup can knees and elbows with splinted thighs and forearms pointed to the g...

Wow, lots of good ideas, thanks! After a little more looking based on some of the posts, I have to admit, the sallet is looking less and less ideal, and the "14th Century Mafia" is looking pretty spiff... ideally I'm looking to get a period correct kit with as little formed metal armor as ...

Thanks for the input guys! I knew that a sallet and bevor would be expensive, but I hadn't thought about difficulties getting it SCA legal. My thought was that if I could make the rest of the kit on the cheap, I could splurge on a good helmet, though from what I've been able to find online, a sallet...

Well, this is the citation: Saint Moïse l'Éthiopien et démon(s), Vincentius Bellovacensis, Speculum Historiale (trad. Jean de Vignay) 1463 From what I can find, Saint Moses the Ethiopian was, when a young man, a notorious robber and criminal who had a conversion experience and became a monk. At o...

help identifying a picture, newbie here

Hey everyone, I've been a lurker on here for ages, and have learned a lot, and I'm finally at a stage where I can start slowly assembling an SCA kit so I can (hopefully) get involved this summer. I have a problem however, I'm a very poor full time student. Thus, instead of picking a persona and buil...
