Stopping the mongol horde..

I have been thinking about this for a while, but does anyone know any major battles during the early Mongol expansion that where lost by the mongols? On a related note is there any sources that come up with tactics or strategy that was proven to work against a highly organised mobile horde of horse ...

Awesome stuff as I have been eyeing your boots for a while. First off do you have any pics of viking boots with the vibram soles?

Secondly do you have any (dont mind on the colour) with soles in a UK size 11 US size 12? If not dont worry I can wait a little bit, but any idea of price?

Whilst I cant comment on the historical sources of it which I am finding very interesting, personally I find fighting in mail with few under tunics underneath extremely comfortable in any weather (you add more in winter, less in summer) and suprisingly seems to bear up well to 90% of incoming blows.

Matt Many thanks for the useful info and im inclined to agree with you that there is a tendency to think that scale armour devolved from its roman origins and sadly without any other evidence this trend is likely to continue. However progressing on the view that the roman way of attaching scales (al...

Construction of Scale armour to a backing

There are quite alot of scale patterns relating to Roman kit but was wondering if there are any others in existence?Im meaning SCALE not Lamellar by the way as I am going to attach it to a backing. For example where I might find a pattern etc for the construction of both Carolingian scale armour, an...

On that note and realising I was horrendously vague with dateline and location I im interested to know if there is any evidence for splinted vambraces/greaves in UK/France 900-1100?

On the subject of scales I found these http://theringlord.com/cart/shopdisplay ... 1555178328 and wondered if they would be authentic for carolingian scale armour? Aside from the camp photo that is!

So after taking into account the large area of uncertainity here, would it be a safe idea to follow a pattern/design used for making roman scale armour? Does one even exist?

Dark Age greaves and vambraces

The subject title pretty much says it all, as id ideally like to find out what evidence there is for Dark Age greaves and vambraces. Having had numerous bruises and whip lash from archery I have long thought about making some but I’m uncertain as to any actual evidence. I realise there to be made ...
