I think it may be the second issue. I will try shifting the vise grips as i work on the piece.

Yes, they are the vertical plates that wrap around to cover the short ribs. Yes, I have been using a 2x4 that has been rounded in the same way (in my understanding) that a pipe stake would be used. Quick question regarding bending

Hey all, I'm trying to finish setup of my CoP kit (from Polar Bear Forge), and I'm having an issue bending the side plates (the vertical ones). As I'm bending them I've noticed the edges seem to stay flat and the middle is curving more. Not entirely sure how to describe it in a more detailed manner ...

Thanks for all the input everyone! I have worked with duck canvas before so I will probably double layer that just to be safe.

Plates will be steel, possibly 16 or 18 gauge, haven't decided yet. I am considering the kit from Polar Bear forge (I have a friend who recently purchased one and I helped him assemble it).
