Re: Sallet and Bevor

Nice work! The lines are very nice. Thats hard to get right on a sallet. How much are you asking? That has been the great debate around this shop lately. What I should ask and what I can ask seem to have answers with stark contrasts. I was thinking of starting the bid at $1500 and seeing what happe...

Sallet and Bevor

I'm just about to try selling on eBay for the first time but, before I set this guy up on the auction block, I thought I'd put this here for your viewing pleasure. As always, comments and criticism are welcome. Sallet and Bevor made to reflect a style found in Southern Germany around 1480 The Helmet...

I love it!! Do you hot work the 304? Or anneal it at all during the process? I'm very interested in the process. If you have have build photos posted anywhere here on the forum please post the link. Re: Teeny Tiny Chamfron

And smaller hammers!
Holy CRAP, I need smaller hammers!
Most of the hammers I own would eclipse the piece I was working on.
Peining over teeny-tiny rivets was a bit of a challenge too.

If anyone wanted to buy me the Fretz hammers from Rio Grande, I would NOT stop you! ;)

Re: Teeny Tiny Chamfron

If I was told that the only way I could continue making armour is to only make miniatures, I think I could live with that. Because this particular piece was suppose to demonstrate a bit of the whimsical along with the classical, I intentionally exaggerated certain lines and shapes. Regardless of the...

I just delivered this last night and it was very well received. 304 Stainless Steel throughout, Mostly 20 gauge Crinnet articulated on leathers As much as I love the real stuff, doing little projects like this is a lot of fun. Re: Late 15th century Armet, Finished!

Establishing the crest is part of the raising process. As the bowl begins to match the appropriate silhouette, compressing the metal into the shape of the crest keeps the thickness of the metal consistent and is much easier than trying to turn the helmet over to stretch it from the inside. At least,...

Re: Late 15th century Armet, Finished!

I have installed liner strip for a quilted lining to be installed. I'm leaving the lining itself to the expertise of David. The size difference you are seeing is actually just a perspective illusion. The helmet, being in the foreground, looks much bigger than it actually is. This was a picture taken...

Re: Late 15th century Armet, Finished!

Technically speaking, LOTs of hours!

While I do track my hours, I was working on multiple projects at the same time as this one. I would have to look up the breakdown to give exact numbers.
This was also a bit of a labor of love. I did spend some extra time working on the details.

Re: buffer vibration problems

It is possible that the hole in the center of the wheel is over-sized. It may have been that way when you first purchased it and you've been lucky until now, or it may have simply happened with repeated use. The easy fix is a shim around the arbor and you may need to take a rake to the wheel if it h...
