Bluing solutions UK side

Hey guys, So I've got a bit of a problem I wouldn't mind a bit of help solving. I've got a potential customer wanting a few bits of armour and he wants me to give some parts of it a blued finish. So after searching for various ways of doing this I've decided to go with using a cold bluing solution. ...

Re: Looking for feedback on a piece

So been a bit busy since last posting. Got an order shortly after my last post so the legs had to go on the back burner until that was finished then got married last week. However I've finally finished them. Due to being put on the back burner and my very bad memory I forgot to do any of the alterat...

Re: Looking for feedback on a piece

Cheers for all the good feedback and advice so far. I'm noticing that there is a pair of lames above the main plate of the cuisse on the original but you opted to go with just one. How come? I did make the second lame. However it made the whole thing to long on my legs. Whilst they are not for me an...

Re: Looking for feedback on a piece

Hey Guys cheers for the feedback. I usually sand before rolling but for some reason with this piece I didn't. Already regretting it as I know when I start sanding next week it will be annoying. As to the point posed by coreythompsonhm, yes the wing is a little flat. I really struggled to get it to m...

Looking for feedback on a piece

Hey Guys me again, So still messing around trying to actually get half way decent with this. I recently decided to try and recreate an actual piece and do my own pattern for it. I've messed around with patterns before but never based on an actual piece and usually on something I've not done many of....

Review of the Iron Dwarf

Bit of a late review but was waiting for a chance to use them first. Ordered some tools from him at the beginning of the year. They arrived quickly and well packaged. Communication with him was prompt and he was happy to answer all of my stupid questions. They are very well made and have not needed ...

Re: Newbie bits and pieces.

Instead of starting a new thread I thought I'd use this one to post any further work that I would like your feedback on. So amongst other things I've been thinking of creating a line of pieces that are fast and easy to make to try and bring in a bit more money for new tools. The first piece I've bee...

Re: First breastplate from a newbie.

Will see what the finances are doing once I've got all the incoming and outgoing sorted. Already decided to put a bit aside for some of the bits you sell.

Re: First breastplate from a newbie.

Would be good to get the rivets cheaper. I've got nearly everything else to a good price including large sheets of metal, think it is about £70 for a 2 1/2M X 1 1/4M sheet of 14g mild. But that much for only 100 rivets is a bit much. Especially when I do something like my recent leg pieces which use...

Re: First breastplate from a newbie.

Here are a couple more angles. http://imageshack.us/a/img152/8673/1001750j.jpg This one is showing how I screwed up the side on the front. This one was down to seeing an Eric Dube video where I noticed a slight point coming out half way up. I then made a quick sketch of it flat to reference when fre...

Re: First breastplate from a newbie.

Would be good to start going to some of the events. So far my only experience of anything like that was one reenactment training day (Also a few larp events but I doubt they actually count). If I do go to one I will keep my eye out for you though. Also forgot to point out the other, rather large iss...

Re: First breastplate from a newbie.

Picked up my copy of TOMAR soon after I decided to give plate bashing a go. I've found it a huge help already. The other resource I've been using to help me learn is the videos by Eric Dubé as i find visual learning far more effective for myself. I've been meaning to get a stand sorted for my worksh...

Re: First breastplate from a newbie.

I used 12 gauge mild steel for this as I got a large sheet for a rather cheap price and my only other sheet is 15 gauge. It was all cold worked as I'm still saving for a decent blowtorch. As for the fluting it was my first attempt and I only had an old, rather large jack hammer chisel head to work w...

First breastplate from a newbie.

Hello all, I've been armouring now on a part time basis for the last year and have made a handful of pieces already. However now I'm getting some work from friends I thought I should try and be more professional with it. As such I thought I'd put up a photo of my latest piece and see what feedback I...
