I'm not shipping this to anyone, you can come and get it. Make an offer. But you may wish to come look at it first before you make any offers. This thing is truly a beast. I tried to wear it once and it felt like i was trying to move and bend while standing in a barrel. If you're tall enough, and bu...

anybody around the Lakes Region of NH:

I've got a CoP/brigandine-ish costume armour I just want to get rid of....make an offer, i just want it gone. Its insanely heavy, too stiff and rigid to actually wear properly unless youre really tall. Its beautiful to look at, but the armourer who made it wasnt very knowledgable about that type of ...

Christianity in viking age Scandinavia

Ok, bare with me...I was watching Beowulf (the latest CGI one) (yes I know Beowulf doesnt take place during the Viking Age, I'm just drawing parallels)and the "new christ religion" or however they dubbed it was mentioned, and it got me thinking how exactly monks and/or missionaries would have been l...

arab arms and equipment during the Viking Age

I was wondering what kinds of equipment the Norse would have encountered in the course of their dealings with the Umayyad and Aghlabid emirates and the Idrisid Caliphate, and points further east. All my books deal with western europe and the north atlantic.

How far east did the Norse go in the Viking Age....

I was looking over some history and geography articles recently, mostly about China and Japan, and I got to wondering....how far east did the Norse go? What's the furthest east documentable location for Viking age norsemen to be found? Surely the Silk Road would have drawn the attention of enterpris...

How would a pagan norseman be accepted in predominantly Christian settlements? Especially if he prominantly displayed his "old faith". Do we know how tolerant the Bishoprics were to pagans?

I had always been under the impression that the only surviving Viking Age mail shirt was the Gjermundbu (sp?) one...however, in thumbing through The Vikings, by Ian Heath (an Osprey title) on page 46, there is a photograph of 2 extant corselets, one from Vaerdalen, North Trondelag and the other from...

I stand corrected. My question now is why are later period long bows treated with such awe, as if they were a new ultimate weapon? I dont believe "longbows" as we think of them existed yet...they used shorter "self" bows I believe. Primarily for hunting, but missle exchanges during sea battles were quite common.
