I'm not shipping this to anyone, you can come and get it. Make an offer. But you may wish to come look at it first before you make any offers. This thing is truly a beast. I tried to wear it once and it felt like i was trying to move and bend while standing in a barrel. If you're tall enough, and bu...

anybody around the Lakes Region of NH:
I've got a CoP/brigandine-ish costume armour I just want to get rid of....make an offer, i just want it gone. Its insanely heavy, too stiff and rigid to actually wear properly unless youre really tall. Its beautiful to look at, but the armourer who made it wasnt very knowledgable about that type of ...

Think I remember awhile back someone mentioning here on the Archive that archers made use of mauls for pounding in stakes and makeshift palisades as defense versus cavalry/infantry attacks on their positions...these would have been more like the 20 lb sledge variety that was mentioned. Cant cite any...

not totally sure on this, but I believe conversion of most of Norway anyways happened around 1000AD...no idea on Denmark. So lets say 1000AD give or take a decade. How much do we know of indigenous people becoming missionaries/monks themselves in their own lands? Where did Christian clergy rank in s...

Christianity in viking age Scandinavia
Ok, bare with me...I was watching Beowulf (the latest CGI one) (yes I know Beowulf doesnt take place during the Viking Age, I'm just drawing parallels)and the "new christ religion" or however they dubbed it was mentioned, and it got me thinking how exactly monks and/or missionaries would have been l...

arab arms and equipment during the Viking Age
I was wondering what kinds of equipment the Norse would have encountered in the course of their dealings with the Umayyad and Aghlabid emirates and the Idrisid Caliphate, and points further east. All my books deal with western europe and the north atlantic.

That and it comes down to $ and exposure for the group as a whole...doing a re-enactment for a production company, even erroneously, is basically paid advertising. They get noticed, and it makes OTHER production companies notice them too. The fact they (Regia and others of their ilk) have no qualms ...

How far east did the Norse go in the Viking Age....
I was looking over some history and geography articles recently, mostly about China and Japan, and I got to wondering....how far east did the Norse go? What's the furthest east documentable location for Viking age norsemen to be found? Surely the Silk Road would have drawn the attention of enterpris...

Norse/viking mail shirts?
I had always been under the impression that the only surviving Viking Age mail shirt was the Gjermundbu (sp?) one...however, in thumbing through The Vikings, by Ian Heath (an Osprey title) on page 46, there is a photograph of 2 extant corselets, one from Vaerdalen, North Trondelag and the other from...

I always thought it odd that walrus hide wasn't crafted into armour (as far as we know currently)...they did craft it into rope (which I would think more unlikely than making it into body armour or shields). Especially given the skill and ingenuity of Norse craftsmen. I keep holding out for new evid...

I stand corrected. My question now is why are later period long bows treated with such awe, as if they were a new ultimate weapon? If they'd been around for centuries, how come all of a sudden they seemed to be regarded as the .50 Cal of their day? In what context were those larger bows found in? Wa...
