Re: ISO specs for ocular perf plate

Thanks. I found that one of my classmates has some left over from equipping their helmet, so I would appear to be covered.

Re: ISO specs for ocular perf plate

Scott, might you have enough of your stash to sell me a strip? I think to get the heavier duty material from McMaster, I'd have to purchase much more then I need.

Re: ISO specs for ocular perf plate

This isn't for SCA. I'm studying at a HEMA school and our armor standards are kinda what the lead instructor says they are, but I'm just poking around and mining the collective experience as well. We don't hit at Battle of the Nations intensity so I don't feel like I necessarily need 12 gauge, but a...

ISO specs for ocular perf plate

I am thinking about adapting an existing visor for rebated steel combat by installing perf plate behind the eyes slots. Has anyone got recommendations in terms of minimum gauge (same as visor?) and hole diameter vs space between holes? Here's McMaster-Carr's page for same: https://www.mcmaster.com/s...

Appears to be somewhere between 18 and 20 gauge. Back of metacarpal measures 4.5" across, should fit a size L glove. All pieces labeled as ...

Re: ISO brass mail strip

It's for a client who's also a friend and at the sluggish speed I work making mail, buying a piece would be cheaper than paying me to do the labor. And even as I was writing this message, she informed me she already bought a coif to dismantle, so the point is moot. :)

ISO brass mail strip

Anybody have a source for a small piece of brass mail, preferably riveted, maybe 6" x 18"? I need one for a neck drape on a helmet (not a full camail, properly speaking) and I'd rather avoid having to buy a full coif from India and cut it up.

I've been making and buying stuff under the assumption that it's next year, but I'd be equally happy to do it with more lead time, for all of the reasons you state. I've been unemployed since May and am staring down the barrel of several months more of the same- it's hard to justify a big vacation u...

Can anyone recommend a craftsperson who does authentic 17th century scabbards, for a schiavona in particular? A HEMA classmate of mine is in the market.

FS: lightweight c15-16 cuirass- SOLD

SOLD. Cuirass in the late 15th to early 16th century style, appears to be 18 gauge mild throughout, solidly built but probably best for display or costume use, or very light sparring. Satin finish with light storage rust. Detachable front and back tassets, modern buckles. Welded construction inside ...

Galvanization wasn't, but tinning was. I know brig plates were tinned on occasion, but I don't know about the nails.

When using them in a body armor, rust can be an issue, both inside and out. My brigandines have gotten pretty salty with sweat.

Not that I can afford it, but do you know what the laws are like in general pertaining to transferring replica firearms from state to state when they're this primitive? I always assume California won't let you buy anything fun through the mail.

NB, it appears to be part of a "lost hoard" and was "once owned by Himmler," soon to be unveiled on the History Channel. That's not putting my mind at ease. https://www.independent.ie/entertainmen ... 13902.html

This helm: Victorian fake?

Someone in my HEMA school posted this pic while waxing poetic about the Templars. I've never seen this one before in my life, which automatically sets off alarm bells, since the number of surviving great helms, esp. in this condition, is quite small. My first reaction is to call it a Victorian wanna...
