It's for a client who's also a friend and at the sluggish speed I work making mail, buying a piece would be cheaper than paying me to do the labor. And even as I was writing this message, she informed me she already bought a coif to dismantle, so the point is moot.

Anybody have a source for a small piece of brass mail, preferably riveted, maybe 6" x 18"? I need one for a neck drape on a helmet (not a full camail, properly speaking) and I'd rather avoid having to buy a full coif from India and cut it up.

Galvanization wasn't, but tinning was. I know brig plates were tinned on occasion, but I don't know about the nails.

When using them in a body armor, rust can be an issue, both inside and out. My brigandines have gotten pretty salty with sweat.
