Re: Trying to locate a book based on two pages
I have that book, I recognise the images, but I have no clue which book it is. If I can dig it out I'll come back and post. I just stubled in to see if anyone was still here. I haven't been here in ages.

Re: Coping with being sidelined by an injury
I've been totally out since September 2016. I was rear ended. I now have at least 3 new bulging disks. I can't twist and I can't lift hardly anything. I have L5 nerve root impingement which is causing lower back issues including spasms, problems lifting my foot right when I walk, possible some atrop...

Re: Concussions and CTE
I have been concussed in armor a couple of times. I have had many less than concussive, but still hurt through 10 pounds of helmet and padding, hits over time. (Note, none of them were spear shots or thrusts, all we sword blows, either broad sword or two handed.) I had started to show a few symptoms...

West Crown, June 2012, FInals
Video of West Crown finals from last weekend are online at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQ4_QmIljUk&list=UUNHyvjejpvZn3Fnoo4y48qg&index=1&feature=plcp . The format was a bit different this time. 60 fighters split into 4 pools did a round robin, the best 2 from each field did another round robin, t...

Re: Neoprene Shoulder Brace... for my rotator cuff.. Bionic
You're right about the hands-on approach being the best, but the self-help book allowed me to stop my back pain when I had reached the end of my pain tolerance. That was 5 years ago - just before I was going to ask for the operation. The pain hasn't come back, I can stand up straight again, and my ...

When I used a round, I strapped it with my arm on the centerline, one strap relatively close to my elbow, but not so close as to give a problem bending my arm, and one over my wrist. The one on my wrist would get synched down really tight. That's where the control of the shield mostly came from and ...

I've used a crosshilt for 15 years or close to it. Never had a problem with wraps. It does take some playing with the mechanics of the shot, though. It will want to turn over a little differently. Also, if you are "pushing" the sword you're going to have a hard time. Crosshilts work with more of a "...

Patrick does excellent work, but I bet something went slightly amiss in the heat treating process. I think it happens to the best of them once in awhile. Could be. Don't know. I went to a lower point, slightly earlier look and had a 12ga stainless skull done for it and so far no dents. I've used it...

MY 14 ga hardened steal helmet took several really good dents that I couldn't pound out. I ended up goign to 12 ga stainless. Added a welded stainless aventail and it probably goes a bit over 10 pounds, althogh I haven't weighed it. Dan Who made the 14ga heat treated helmet? Patrick Thaden made it....

Sean has it right I think. I did fight in 16G helm and got hit in the head well over couple 100 times ( I always blocked with my head!) , but it was a well made spangenhelm type ( ugly as hell I made it myself) I was only knocked out twice. 14 g is plenty but will get small dents. If you make it to...

I wear sports goggles that hinge at the bridge over my nose, so they sit very close to my face. The only issue is that sweat runs down the inside of the lenses. I'm pretty much stuck to wear them since i have no depth perception without the prism in teh lenses, so even surgery won't let me get rid o...

So I'm want to ask something of all the experienced fighters here. How much do you dumb down your skill level when fighting newbies? And how do you dumb down your skill? -Give them openings to swing for? -Fight at a lower speed, both foot and bladework? -Not take advantages of all the openings they...

Well now apparently the crown can banish you for non-criminal activities outside of SCA events. Prior to this I am not aware of any banishment that was both non-criminal AND outside of an SCA event. I can think of one or two off the top of my head. Based on discussions with other people it seems it...

The topic was assigned to the GC by the Board. The report has 2 recommendations regarding social media, based on the discussions that took place. The quoted section is a very small part of it. This recommendation makes no new policy, just codifies what is already happening. If you want to know what ...

Re: Confused about proposed new rules
I'm sorry, I've been reading this thread (madu rant and all), and I'm still unsure as to the legality of the weapon(s) I've been planning to make. Is a talhoffer-style pollaxe (hammer on one side, pokey on the other) no longer allowed to use a butt-spike under these proposed new rules? -Guillaume U...
