Re: kydex corrazina construction

I'm not actually planning a corrazina, but an early 14th "pair of plates" so I do want the scales to be a bit larger than for a brigandine. My last CoP was wax hardened leather riveted under cloth so I'm comfortable with that type of construction. I'm really just looking at options at this point and...

rotccapt, can we get an update on this? I'm considering something similar and would love to hear what (if anything) you would do differently, and how well it has held up.

Re: OK, let's figure out early 14th century leg harness.

This old thread is very relevant to my current interest and next project, so here we go again. Though honestly, for the examples where a simple unarticulated cop is shown, there seems to be little difference across the ages. It does seem that the portrayal of rivets is more prevalent in the effigy a...

These are blackened mild steel, large. Whonew was selling these originally for $275 iirc. I'm hoping for $200, including shipping.

Re: Whonew Wisby finger gauntlet kit for trade

Contradictory to my first post, I'm not really interested in trade at this point (except for maybe non-armor items). I haven't fought in four years, and I'll likely be selling my whole kit pretty soon.

I figure I probably won't be crippled to a shot to the neck. Probably. My helmet does sit pretty low, and I have pretty good padding under my aventail. I also don't fight very often, it might make a difference if I did.

Whonew Wisby finger gauntlet kit for trade

I've got a blackened Wisby kit from Whonew, and I am ONLY interested in trade at this point. This kit is sized Large. My hands are. . . not large. I am looking to trade for a smaller kit, or possibly a partial trade for completed gauntlets. If there is no interest, I will be completing this kit to s...

Yes, I've never had a marshal inspect the amount of padding in my helmet. If you feel comfortable fighting in it, it's probably enough to be legal.

Re: No Mind. Do you use it & How?

Play Guitar Hero. Seriously, the parallel with fighting is pretty striking. There is the same concept of rapid identification and execution, and if you think you lose. I can reach that state of "no mind", and can clearly tell the difference. I initially thought the game could be a way to train it, b...

Sugarloaf=modified greathelm
Bascinet=evolved cervelliere

The origin and purpose were originally very different, even if the final shapes were similar. I also don't believe the two were in use at the same time.

Re: I thought I had seen that this helmet was a fake?

With my (admittedly) limited knowledge of 15th C helms, I can't imagine this was used by archers or crossbowmen. My impression is that it was a tilting helm. I imagine the cheek plates lift to ease donning and doffing, as well as adjusting a possible chinstrap, or something else. In a similar way, I...

My chin strap wraps under my chin, not over it. A little less safe perhaps, but doesn't interfere with facial hair.

Just try not to get taken in by the "this shield style is the only way that works" mentality. Experiment, try things out, and don't exclude anything. There is nothing wrong with a heater for foot combat, and absolutely nothing wrong with a wooden shield.

As far as price and quality it looks about average for Indian mail. Since you're just starting out I would caution against spending that mind of money for something that's largely decorative. That's what I did, spent my money on things I wanted for my appearance, and ended up with arms and legs that...
