So it's like a more expensive, less accessible version of our game. Not interested.

I used a Disney Princess boogie board and a lot of tape, but given a little more money, I'd definitely go with one of the rubber heads currently available. They really improve the look.

Re: Rattan basket hilt size
When I started fighting, 36 years ago, I never saw basket hilts. Sometime in the mid-1980s, Duke John the Bearkiller published a design for making a basket hilt out of vinyl garden hose and strapping tape (which, amazingly, works). Eventually armourers started welding together baskets out of barstoc...

Re: First time fighting 2H Weapons
In tourneys I use a 56-inch longsword; in melees I usually use a six-foot greatsword -- but at the recent Fool's War found I had a lot of fun using a great-axe, and plan to use it again in the melee at Black Axe (seems appropriate). I find with two-handed weapons I'm more aware of how one must use o...

Re: Fighting after Fifty
I just turned 54. I've enjoyed SCA fighting for over 33 years (not counting a couple of years in the '80s where I was out for medical reasons). I gave up using a shield because of shoulder problems, and mostly use two-handed weapons. I proceed through resurrection battles at a walk instead of a run,...

Re: Low profile tips on greatswords?
God damn it. At the Crossroads event, surrounded by peers, I was assured otherwise. I immediately made a low-profile tip for my greatsword, had it inspected, and fought with it at the event. Although I wasn't able to find written confirmation after the event, I had no reason to think I'd been given ...

Re: Low profile tips on greatswords?
I'm resurrecting this five-year-old thread, because I'm happy to report that low-profile tips are now legal on two-handed swords in Meridies. Apparently that's been true for a while; as usual, I was out of the loop. But at the Crossroads of East and West event today, I was assured of this by the Mar...

SCA armour for sale on ebay; without "SCA" in heading
Somebody on Facebook posted this in the SCA page: Homemade Real Leather Metal Full Armor Medieval Cosplay Large . It's clearly SCA gear; just seems odd "SCA" doesn't appear in the listing. A suspicious mind might suspiciously suspect that the seller doesn't want it to show up with a simple "SCA armo...

Re: CoP used without mail.
Randall, my question comes from the fact that in nearly every art piece pair of plates are worn with mail, so I was wandering if there was some kind of "tier system" where padded defenses come first, than if you have money you have mail, and then if you are wealthier (or the municipality is) you ge...

Re: Scale armor better than plate?
The picture in the OP reminds me of a style of armour that was sort of a fad in Meridies, about 30 years ago. It consisted of hexagonal metal plates, maybe three inches across (and slightly convex), joined together at the edges by small rings. Ahistorical for Europe (though reminiscent of some Asian...

Re: 2014 Show Us Your Kits
Hand protection is always one of the most expensive, delicate, and personal decisions to make. I wore hockey gloves for many, many years. My hockey gloves are good protection, but, yeah, they look like ass. I had steel gauntlets, but they slowed me down a bit, so I gave them away. (I'm 53, and don'...

The 14-gauge butted haubergeon I made, and used to wear, weighed close to 40 pounds, so 25 would be dandy.
Ironbadger, thanks for starting this thread, and I'll be very interested in your evaluation. $123 is a tempting price.

Corollary question: If someone is going to hop around on one leg, anyone have a problem with simply corkscrewing outside his range until he tumbles? It isn't kosher to do to a fighter on knees, but presumably the hopper has mobility. But, then, I don't think I've ever seen a HW fighter do the hoppi...
