If you want to make and mix your own shoemakers wax and run your linen or hemp thread through it, go nuts. If you'd like to streamline that a bit, try here: http://www.royalwoodltd.com/cat14-17ar.htm. No last necessary, turn, stitch, turn. If turning either direction is difficult, soak first. Wear t...

Repair help in London
I had a fellow reach out to me for a simple repair. He is in London so shipping between London and Chicago isn't the best use of cash. Anyone in London (or area) that I can refer him too? He needs new buckles and straps on grieves. Email me please if you can help. Thanks in advance. Jon jon@armlann....

Chippewa bisons
A little off topic but here before ebay. 8.5EE Chippewa 3 hole boots. Some scuffing and such but recently went through Chippewas renew service with a buff, new insoles and at my request, vibram lugs. I usually wear a 9EE but with a good wide boot, 8.5 does it for me. I also wore an 8.5 in Corcorans....

Re: inexpensive sources for beeswax?
Not sure about what kind of grade but you do want fairly clean wax for bottles. The lower the grade the more bodies and such that are in it. Likely not harmful but not attractive. I don't know your process but I dip warm bottles in liquid and then heat a bit more. Flotsam in the wax would end up on ...

Re: Pouches with welts
Yes, the doubled section between wider panels, usually of contrasting color. I can't make them out in the artwork but they are common from European makers. Don't usually see it on mens pouches but I see it a lot on drawstring style and womens.

Pouches with welts
Planning on making some pouches/bags and I have a question for those who've gone before me. I've seen lots of illustrations and went through Goubitz' book but I'm not seeing the contrasting color welts between panels I see on some bags that are otherwise very well made. Anyone have pictures of extan...

Canvas shelf supports for pavilion
I think these came from Panther. They go over a pavilion pole and allow you to hang two shelves ~12" and a pole below it if you like. Two sets (4 straps), one set never used, one set used a couple of times. $30.00 (both sets) shipped to the continental US. Check or MO, no paypal. Thanks.

Jaunty Duluth Hat
I have too many hats and this one has to go. It is from Duluth Trading, size XL. Brim is about 2.5" I'd like $30.00 and if you'd like to get it and pick it up at Pennsic, we're good. Shipping in a large flat rate is $18.00 and thus prohibitive. However, if you'd like it for $45.00 shipped, it's your...

Re: Tamerlane Yurts? Yurts in general?
I don't know anything about the company referenced but I sleep in a yurt at Pennsic and have for many years. Unless your yurt is very large, no center poles. It's an advantage of the design. Very weather resistant, easy to set up, comfortable living space and climate. Not so easy to hump around and ...

Re: Interesting footwear article but...
I don't disagree that heavy boots and heels from the period of the manuals he is reading are wrong but what expert on historical shoes did he talk to? He references nails hurting his feet. None in medieval shoes. Surviving examples all but non-existent?

Re: Mac's new chest. (the short version)
I took a look at plans at Rockler and they were 10-20. Converting everything to a pdf and selling only plans ~ $25.00 and you'd make your time investment back in a timely manner. Hardware kits would be pretty pricey and my guess is that it would price it out of reach for many unless you become an im...

One word about patterns - lasts. The best shoe will be made with a last. Patterns are almost irrelevant with a last.
