There is one with brig sleeves at the Met. It probably went with a breast plate or some other non brig defense so the torso is buff leather.

Hi guys,

Re: Let's talk about templates.
I have used patterns from Talbot, Wade and others before. You can learn a lot from a good pattern just as you can from good pictures. Usually the first piece I make in metal ends up as a learning experience which then goes into producing a better pattern for the next one. I look at patterns you get ...

Re: Leather armour in art? (brown with metal strips & rivets
Here is some text from King Rene. Note the rods that can be attached to the armour. I suspect a better translation might be sewed than glued. In Brabant, Flanders and Hainault, and in those countries near the Germanies, they are accustomed to arms themselves differently for a tourney. They take a de...

I don't know about this object. However, I have seen several leather fireman's hats that looked similar to this item. If its 19th or early 20th century it is likely one of these.

Perhaps they intend to field dress the quarry and will use the rope to aid in transport.

The fortress was captured by the Turks in about 1470. However, we do not know the exact age of the material found there. It may have been kept around for some time or it may be that styles in the area lagged behind styles in Italy. http://www.wassonartistry.com/armor.php?w=cuirasses The blue and yel...

This also happens in modern cities. I was excavating on a project on a boulevard and found train tracks and old pavement from the 1800's 6 feet below the current ground surface.

I think they are both articulated knees. The left one is just twisted around. Note the strap. People involved in these scenes often have a disheveled appearance or are partly undressed to show their moral failings.

Take a strip of the padding you are going to wear under the helm and wrap it around your head. Then take the measurement. Also remember there is a crest you need a little room for. I think you will find the measurement of 14 inches per side is big for historical padding but not far off for thick SCA...

Re: Summer Project Madness: Resizing my Bascinet!!
My experience is that the helm warps as soon as you cut it. Getting all the edges of the cut sections to go back together and be the correct final dimensions is quite difficult also. Then the pieces warp again as you are welding them and won't want to meet up. In this case, starting from scratch is ...

I think you should experiment with some firm felt padding to fill in the gaps first. I have tried cutting up and reassembling helms before and its much tougher than you imagine it to be.

Re: PVC Articulated arm armour with Compression Articulation
Those are cool, particularly the compression articulation. I wonder if you could make a form to press the elbow cops in so they would have a deeper profile which would make the articulations on the outer part of the arm work even better? Have to be careful not to thin the cops too much though.

Mac, Interesting thread that goes with the similar one on greaves. I have a question, when you work on the area where the cone top connects to the cylindrical bottom section do you start at the weld and work outward in the up and down directions or start on one side and work all the way across? Also...

That is a very elegant work of art and I'm sure you will do it justice. Although the fancy hat on the statue is nice I'm wondering what is planned for the helm? Some sort of highly decorated sallet and bevor? Is there a similar piece that has a helmet that you can work from?

I'm having trouble understanding what you are going to do. Are you saying you are going to cast copper finials on an existing copper torc? There is an existing brig belonging to one of the Doges of Venice that is of cloth of gold brocade. One of the corrazinas at the met has a cover with a diamond pattern, not a brocade but a fancy woven pattern. Really, the question is does your personna merit garments of brocade or not? I used a set of wades patterns as a starting point for some german arms and shoulders a while back and they were excellent. Basically I resized them to fit and made prototype out of paper and made a few tweeks. They saved me a lot of time. Wade, you should put those patterns up, they are really easy...

Can you add some additional details to explain what you mean by "back raising the ridges out" in you descripiton of shaping the helmet top. I am having some problems visualizing the technique.

I have seen pics of an existing pair of armored hose on a german site with tiny plates sewn inside. It may be depicting something similar. The site I saw it on is the one with all the links to collections in german museums, can't remember the name, something like bildindex.de?
