I have objections to using stainless for a seg. 1) they didn't use it 2) it does not act the same as mild steel in the way it hangs and moves 3) if its the wrong alloy and/or not worked correctly it will rebound. Rust? Wax and oil, natural oil, not olive. OR tin plate it. A handful of seg plates hav...

For up to 14g I use a hammer and a drift punch and a lead hammering block. Fast. The tool's reach is limited by the length of my arms. Starter divet on 14g. Small holes are easy enough. Need larger? ... start smaller and work up. example: [img]http://rlqm.com/LegioIXHispana.segmentata.assembley/loba...

Hmmm.... since there is no need for him to make something up then why do so? I am strongly encouraging him to go with bronze! And I'm not telling him can't use leather, just that he shouldn't if he wants to do Roman because as far as we know there's no such thing as a Leather Roman Breastplate. As f...

Good points. In the Roman world we are fortunate to have guys like MC Bishop who participate on an international forum .. He often reminds us to be wary of the details on a sculpture of any kind. Themes are generally OK, (re: soldiers in segmentatas on Trajan's Column) but the details and the scale ...

I have built and or supervised the making/remaking of 160+ laminatas.. When they are made to fit they are to a man comfortable to wear, all day and when working. You ought to be able to do sit ups, bend and touch your toes ( If you could do so without the armor!); use and axe, or adze or shovel; lif...

But it being a more complex defense does not make it a more effective defense, if you get my drift. I understand. The laminata was far more flexible and generally lighter in weight than hamata. The padded underarmor could also be thinner than that needed to maximize chainmail's effectiveness agains...

Clenched nails are very strong and durable and maybe what are referred to as "staples" since a clenched nail acts like and can look like one side of a paper staple. You hammer the nails through your wood and into a metal surface to force the end of the nail to cruve back like this: http://www.appalt...

We are building MANICA for the sword arm with extended coverage over the back of the hand The manica attach to the shoulder plates of the segmentata and then to a padded glove.. The rope between the poles will not be enough to hold up the cloth even if you use portable holes. Using a rope between poles is a good idea but you will also need two guy lines from the top of each pole to stakes. These guy lines create the tension on the center rope that'll prevent the tent from s...
