Renaissance Music Ensemble, maybe.
I got out of the SCA a few years back, can't fight anymore and we moved to a new town with a so-so level of activity, and I was super busy with the new job and making babies and what have you. I do miss the reenactment life, and I love all things music, so my wife and I have been toying with the ide...

Longsword fighting in Idaho?
Have a guy I knew as a kid that randomly messaged me asking if I knew any groups in Idaho that do German Longsword style combat. I've been out of the loop for awhile, anyone happen to know if there is such a thing anywhere?

Doesn't look like his design. The articulating plate over the back of the hand is different. Maybe a bad knockoff, but I'm not sure to even that.

Grettir Gauntlets - Sold Pending Pmt
*Sold pending payment* This is unbelievably sucky, but I need to sell my Grettir Gauntlets. Don't know if I'll be fighting anytime soon (or ever again), and what was supposed to be a good sized tax return ended up as me owing taxes. Ugh. These were never fought in, got them from Grettir last fall, a...

Aesir Metalwyrks has a semi-custom option that's affordable, and his stuff is solidly built. I've owned a few of his. You could also check and see if he has any post-Estrella inventory that would fit your budget.

Didn't Musashi purportedly kill a guy in a duel with a whittled down boat oar? I wouldn't want to be hit with one.

Converting bazubands to 14th C Vambraces à la Gunther V.S.
So I have some plastic unassembled Haroun bazubands, and I'm wanting to start working on a 14th century kit and move away from early period/viking. I was browsing pinterest for 14th C Germany effigies, and came upon a discussion on the archive containing images from Günter The Xxv Von Schwarzburg ef...

Re: Getting motivation to get back in armor.
Take a break. Don't force it. Once Idaho is free of this mini ice age, you will want to fight again. BTW, you don't have extra floating knees I can trade you for? You know I actually have an inkling to take my kit a different route (currently Generi-Viking, thinking of going 14th Century), and i ha...

Getting motivation to get back in armor.
So I find my motivation to fight has mysteriously disappeared as of late. I changed jobs and moved from Arizona to Idaho last June, and my armor followed in September, but I haven't even pulled it out of storage since then. Back in AZ I was fairly active in fighting, and since moving I just can't se...

Re: Things We See (and Things We Overlook) in the SCA
I have no room to comment on other people's authenticity, I have no soft kit to speak of an a generiviking hard kit. However, having been attending SCA events since I was a kid, what jumps out at me more than modern amenities and the like are SCAisms like belt favors/butt flaps, mongol 4-panel hats ...

Sorry need to update this. Ended up selling the Ruger to a local gun shop, their offer was fair and I needed groceries. Fun times. On a happier note, I got a good sized escrow refund check from selling my house awhile ago that I wasn't expecting, so we're a little more stabilized now.

Life throws me a curveball sale.
Update: Ended up selling some stuff locally, and got more or less stabilized for now. Thanks for looking. Long story short, sold my house and moved out of state for a new job. Had some funds set aside for Grettir gauntlets, I'm in the next batch. House that was supposed to close on the 25th is now c...

Re: Hussar wings in SCA combat
I'm afraid, potential for injury aside, they'd get destroyed in the first pass. I've seen a number of fights where a combatant comes out with a most excellent crest/plume, and within seconds someone has whacked it. It's like moths to the flame, people want to hit pretty things with a stick.

Good points all. I guess I'm not too worried about being super competitive, first and foremos we want to do it just for the joy of working with our hands. I sell guitars for a living, which while sometimes fun isn't as rewarding as building cool things from scratch. We figure we'll make a few odds a...

As mentioned in another post I'm moving back up to Idaho here soon. A good friend of mine is going to join the SCA.
