Re: FS Ironmonger Armourer's Swage block

Sasha Khan, it looks like $39.10 to send the swage to you in Caid Samuel, I am looking to post all the patterns as pdf's once I have sold out. I am now out of gauntlets and soon the V6s. I am trying to work a lot deal on the topfhelm parts as there are so many of them and I don't want to deal with l...

FS Ironmonger Armourer's Swage block

I have here an Ironmonger Armourer’s Swage block I bought at Pennsic about 13 years ago. I used it quite a lot in the beginning, then transitioned to different techniques and more specialized forms. It is in great shape. I would like to see it used more instead of on my shelf. They are $300 new, I w...

Re: Remaining Zweihammer kits and patterns

Well, I have sent off the first batch of respondents orders after waiting a few days to allow some to pay or decline. I will try contacting the next group to see if they are still interested, then post what remains, probably in a new thread(s) to try to avoid the mass confusion, again. Thank you for...

Re: Remaining Zweihammer kits and patterns

Well, I have been contacting people in sequence. Not everyone has been contacted, as I was getting myself and everyone confused by responding "you are sixth in line for the first item you asked about, and third for the second until we hear back from X and Y". Having people using multiple names conta...

Re: Need help with my kinyon styled powered hammer.

Get yourself a pair of quick exhaust valves to dump your air instead of passing it back through the valve. You would be amazed at how much of a difference that will make in terms of speed in a pneumatic cylinder. I would have used a two position, open center and just exhausted the cylinder at the po...

Greetings All! I am sorry to have made the decision to suspend offering the kits, but it has become burdensome to myself and my family in respect to time and finances. This venture was unfunded to start with so has basically run in the negative most of the time for the last several years. The best i...

Re: Respect the machinery (graphic injury x-ray)!!!

Oh, that sucks! Buffers are the devil. I used to have a 10hp buffer from an old brass bed frame manufacturer. It would set the buff on fire before it would slow down. I thought it was cool, mostly for bragging rights. Until a friend gored himself in the crotch buffing a breastplate. He had tired and...

OT question for the leather workers, restoring old leather

Greetings All, This is a bit off topic, but it has relevance as I have run into this problem many times before with old armour straps, etc. I just scored some vintage 1973 SIDI Full Bore motocross boots. You know, the kind with 7 straps down the side. Visually, they are cherry, practically new, spen...

Mattmaus, that is redonkulously sexy. I echo everyone else when I say only the lucky cuss who bought that from you thinks you are duly compensating yourself. Re: Anyone want to show their press forms?

Yep, Matt, that is the stuff. Those are pretty steep prices, I think. You might also want to think about a foot control. I have mine set up so I can sit comfortably, use the foot control and hold the material with both hands if need be as well as a bright flex light pointed right at the die interfac...

Re: Anyone want to show their press forms?

You typically just start with a block, I use drops off material from our machine shop at work. UHMW can take a ton of abuse, and as it is used repeatedly, it will take a permanent shape. I line my dishing dies with a thin sheet of it (protects both the tool and the material), I start flutes into a b...

Re: Anyone want to show their press forms?

Now Matt, you ask for examples but keep yours to yourself! Well, I will let you in on one of my most used techniques. Combining hard and "Soft dies", mostly UHMW or urethane, with bounding boxes to control the squish. Doesn't mark your metal, conforms around the hard die more closely with less stretc...
