Your idea is sound but your execution and finish are.....lacking.

To be honest I was expecting to see a plastic cored linothorax with a top layer of linen (or similar) and finished to a degee that would satisfy the 10' rule.

Best of luck with the auction, but I would keep working on this prototype.

You are right, Helm and especially guantlets are usually the sticking points to a decently functioning and looking suit. I made a pretty decent greathelm in my basement. From a pattern here on the archive, basic tools and $20 worth of steel. For those who are blessed with a patient armourer near by ...

WTB viking/norman helm

I am looking for a late viking helm that can be used for live steel and living history. I have been looking online and can't find much beside the awful looking, thin, knockoffs. I am thinking of a spangen or norman with a plain iron nasal and with the eyebrows cut slightly into the browband. I'm loo...

Dude that is a sweet helm.
I'd have it in a minute only I know I would get reamed at the border.

$200 is a bargain, $130 is a crying shame.

Just remember that price is not always an accurate reflection of value (see the $9000.00 Barry Bonds rookie cards)

Are these collars separate items or are they attached to the gambeson? I'm not sure. About the only thing I can tell for sure is they have some sort of fastener (toggle, tie, etc) to bring them snug around the neck. In the Mac bible, some of the collars are a different colour than the body. This is...

If you look at the Maciejowski bible, most gambesons have high collars and separate padded coifs.
That would solve your neck coverage problems without adding vision problems.:)

We are in the East (though only barely) and our local interpretation is to accept thrusts to the helm. We have a small group and do little melee fighting, so 99% of all non-face thrusts on the helm are those that missed high and hit above the brow. At that point they are under the same calibration r...
