Re: GDFB Aventails / Coifs for SCA Helms ?
Hi Yojimbo
I use a GDFB aventail on my Bascinet. It fits mine ok. They sell rings too if you need to do an expansion. Pic of me at Raglan castle 2010 attached

from looking at the two pics I reckon that the blank is marked a couple of inches narrower at the base than your original. This might be perspective tho. I would draw it out again (or use tape to mark it) with the base about 1" wider on each side then check to see how it looks. It is not too far off...

Raglan
Raglan is an amazing experience. I would reccommend it to anyone. Fighting Thomas under torchlight on the bridge over a 30ft drop into the moat was a highlight of the weekend and that kit is even better close up than on pics. A brief summary of Raglan A Castle Tournaments Pas D'armes Sieges through ...

Hi All Made these elbows for a mate of mine. Inspired by a couple of the leg harnesses out of the Churburg Armouries book. Personally I reckon its the best bit of metalwork that I have done so far. Planning to match them up with some Tuliped vambraces and a Canon some time in the next few weeks. Any...

Srapping mitten gauntlets
Hi all Just taken delivery of a new pair of icefalcon gauntlets which are absolutely fantastic looking. I haven't strapped any of these up before so am a bit hesitant to start punching holes in my nice shiny gauntlets. Has anybody got any pics of the strapping arrangements that they would be willing...

Linishing
Hi Vigmund I have been browsing hte second hand industrial tool places like: http://www.rileysurfaceworld.co.uk Might find something here or from similar suppliers. The key word for the UK (not to sure about Germany) is Linishing. Looking for belt sanders just gets you the hand held types. Rgds Alex

keeping it hot
Question for Andrew Not disputing you at all, more of a technique question. how do you keep it hot for long enough to get a weld on thin plate? I have just been doing some damascus work and you only have a few seconds to make your weld even with a decent thickness billet and good flux. Obviously a w...

Very nice.
The edge finish on the faulds is a great detail. Did you do it by hand or have you set up a jig?

I would go with the B+Q 1/2" galvanised roofing nails and a set of bolt cutters to trim them as end nippers can be a bit hard on the hands after the first 100 or so. I think it has been mentioned here before that tinned armyng nayls were in use in the pe...

Hi
I have only ever handled one pair of authentic gauntlets and they were english civil war issue kit. All the articulating lames were domed, at least at the point of overlap. The gap between the lames was tiny.
hope that helps
