For what you are doing, you might consider casting the mock lock. Aluminum is pretty easy to cast, and would save you tons of time. you might have to do some cleanup, but I think it would definitely help cut back on the labor.

Wierd... I was JUST doing the same thing (except this was for a platform in a humidity chamber). What worked best was gradual heating with a heat gun followed by pressing between weights until it was totally cool.

I think the biggest difference between Latten and Brass is that the former had no set formula, and the latter certainly does. So If you showed a medieval dude brass and asked him what the metal was he'd say latten. If you showed a modern guy SOME lattens, he might have difficulty.
